It was Thanksgiving week years ago when I was returning oldest son to Rochester after the Holiday that we ran into the ice storm that littered the highway with crashes. I think I told this story but we came around a corner near where the canal locks are just on the north side of the highway and the road ahead was full of crashed and spinning cars (it had been raining up to that point). The moment I touched the brakes I heard the wheels slide and I got off the brakes and stayed off. After that it was a matter of very small steering inputs to avoid things, which looked impossible. I picked what looked like the softest spot to crash and at the last minute the two spinning cars that I was going to hit spun away like the parting of the red sea.
