Former member Posted August 12, 2014 Share #1 Posted August 12, 2014 It seems that he has gone for a few little rides outside. This is not to say that he's riding again(like he used to ride) but he is riding outside again.

Pokey Posted August 12, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 12, 2014 If there was anyone who would be a bit gun shy about getting back on a bike, it;d be Tobycat. Good for him.

Former member Posted August 12, 2014 Author Share #8 Posted August 12, 2014 Wasn't Toby hurt in a race? Seriously hurt.i think it was a pothole IIRC. When I had my wreck that broke my neck, I think it was a crosswind that pushed me off the road at very high speed, but I have no real clear memory of it, and I think Toby is sorta in the same boat. Many gaps in memory from around the time that it happened.
Kzoo Posted August 12, 2014 Share #9 Posted August 12, 2014 Wasn't Toby hurt in a race? Seriously hurt. No that was that other Dude. Toby THINKS he hit a pothole. I think it was a case of them scraping him up off the road with no witnesses.
Pokey Posted August 12, 2014 Share #10 Posted August 12, 2014 Funny how when this type of accident happens...the recolection factor goes right out the window. Years and years ago, I was in a bad car accident...I don't remember it at all.

Dirtyhip Posted August 12, 2014 Share #12 Posted August 12, 2014 I don't remember hitting K's wheel, or the ride home. My first memory is standing at the mailbox and repeatedly asking K why I was covered in blood. I just kept saying "Look at this blood. Where is this blood coming from?" I think the memory loss is a self protection mechanism. You block things out.

Parsnip Totin Jack Posted August 12, 2014 Share #14 Posted August 12, 2014 IIRC he was riding with friends. Was going very fast and hit a pothole or something in the road and doesn't remember the rest. I'm glad he went out on the bike again.
Kzoo Posted August 12, 2014 Share #15 Posted August 12, 2014 It was FlippersForFeet that went down (and out) during a crit. He was battling head issues for well over a year. http://forums.bicycling.com/profile/54635607118144489

Road Runner Posted August 13, 2014 Share #21 Posted August 13, 2014 Riding a bike is a relatively dangerous activity. I agreed with Toby's decsion to give it up for his family's sake. I hope this doesn't lead to him going back to any sort of serious cycling. But JMO of course, and WTF do I know?

Longjohn Posted August 13, 2014 Share #25 Posted August 13, 2014 I had a lot of memory issues after a mid-air motorcycle collision. A guy recognized me at a bar about a year later and filled me in on what happened. I found out you can't steer a motorcycle once it's in the air going off a jump. Eventually I recalled some of the details but the first thing I remember is my arm hurting and asking my brother why it was in a sling. He said I had been asking him that same question over and over for two days. He told me I wrecked my motorcycle and I asked him how bad it was damaged. The strange thing about it was the other guy came out of the accident in better shape than me and he wanted to take me to the hospital. I told him I would be ok and he helped my load my bike back on to my truck. I drove it home and my brother found me sitting in the front yard, my bike still on the truck and the house still locked up. We have no idea how long I was sitting in the yard.
