That’s what they have been doing to all of our roads lately to get them ready for winter. Maybe they don’t have to do that in Aridzona because you don’t really have winter. Anyway I had a very pleasant 15 mile ride on the rail trail yesterday. I met some cool people and enjoyed chatting with them. When I got back to my vehicle there was a truck parked next to me just starting to unload bikes. The guy had an electric fat bike with a throttle and the girl had a triathlon bike. What a combination. She was trying to improve her bike skills for an upcoming triathlon. She said she was a good runner and a good swimmer but she needed to work on the bike part. I told her I was trying to get my bike skills back for a cycling challenge I’m doing the month of September to raise money to fight childhood cancer. She got all excited and wanted the link so she could contribute. She said her husband just died of cancer. I thought she was real young like maybe 20. She must have been older.

That is a rarely used road in the park; I have never seen a car there, just hikers and cyclists. Only day off in the last 10 and next 10 days. 40 minute drive to the trailhead. Got .3 miles into the ride and the bolt on the seat bracket broke! I was able to unclip and stop while standing on the pedals and walk it back to the trailhead. Luckily there was a hardware store about 5 blocks away that had the right bolt! Nice riding weather and got to visit with some friends who were starting as I finished. 5

Popular Post Longjohn ★ Posted September 4, 2021 Popular Post Share #1486 Posted September 4, 2021 30 sunny miles today, I rode out to the Kennerdell tunnel from Franklin to try out my new headlight. Great light, no guessing where the trail is. Good thing I didn’t go that way with my brother on Wednesday. The bypass is loose gravel and all up and down hills. My heart rate monitor must have a dead battery because it didn’t work at all today. That worked in my favor because I couldn’t climb those hills and keep a 112 heart rate. My brother is not ready to ride hills or gravel. He can find the gear he likes on the flat but he can’t downshift fast enough on the hills.

Popular Post Mr. Beanz Posted September 5, 2021 Popular Post Share #1488 Posted September 5, 2021 Well. Hot AF ride! Strava said 111 degrees but my Garmin Connect said 109 max and average temp of 101. Solo 35 miles with 2.200+ ft of gain. Along the foothills around home. The forecast said my hometown was going to be 100 but they didn't say anything about the next town over being 109 ha ha ha! Didn't feel hot on the ride though. Climbing was a bit slower and don't think I could push hard today but felt good. The last couple of miles I started feeling it. The last two short stretches of 1/2 mile seemed to take forever and they are only about 2% grades. Felt like they were 7% so glad it was over when it was! Had no plan, just took off and followed the bike. Cutest little think gave me the third degree at a park while I was filling my bottles. Hey Mr. Sportsman, why are you wearing a jacket? Why are you wearing a hat? Do you like to play in the dirt? She asked questions for about 10 minutes while I filled my bottles and rested. Cute little thing! Well DAM IT !!! Top of San Dimas Cyn 102 when I started. Honestly thought it would cool down but 23 miles in, went up to 107. 23 miles in, no sweat! Somebody asked about touching toes. I can just about flat hand on the floor without the MTB shoes on. This was after a Clif Bar and large bottle of G ade. I'm old but not that old yet ha ha ha! Still a Fat Bastard though! So after the ride felt the worst. Profile on Stava and temps from Garmin Connect. Strava said 111. I don't think so but hey! 6

Popular Post Mr. Beanz Posted September 6, 2021 Popular Post Share #1497 Posted September 6, 2021 Well that sucked! Broken Cable Tour, very short ride! I have only been riding the trail on Sundays with Gina trying to save gas. $4.25 per gallon here, sheesh! So today was the day, anywhere from 32 to 40 depending on how she feels when we get rolling. Something told me, settle for 32. So we rolled out a couple miles to the turn around, stretched, headed back to the coast. But right when we got back to the start point, ARTIC (Anaheim train station), on the way up from the little underpass, I shifted the rear derailleur and my cable snapped. I fiddled with it for a bit, couldn't get it to shift to the 14 so I just called it quits for the day. Didn't feel like getting greasy in the 90 degree heat. Tried to ride it in the 12 but the chain was dragging. New chains so I didn't want to chew it up. So we got in a whopping 4.5 miles! Forget about today, live to fight again tomorrow. GOOD THING I HAD THAT EXTRA CABLE IN MY TOOL BOX. ALL DONE! Ride continues tomorrow! Nice place to start vs the place we used for years and years riding the trail, like 24 years. This it the Anaheim train station. AC, restrooms, bottle fillers with cold water. Way better than where we used to start. The south side of the facility. Ride right up to the restrooms inside. I'd rather ride around to the back bypassing the walk through tables full of homeless people. Turnaround point stretch! Gina said we could do 40 but I chose the 32, what a wuss ha ha ha! Good thing I did though! Barely getting the roll on when bang! Oh well, half my fun on rides is taking pics! 5
