(Video Later) 45.76 miles @ 18.1 average speed today. Good strong ride with buddies Jose, Joaquin, and another buddy Tony B. Everything was going well till the end. Joaquin was ahead somewhere, Jose just turned off so I kept pushing on. After a bit I realized I was alone and we had 2 other guys join us for the return. I stopped to wait for Tony and the other guys. Then a couple of women rolled by telling me that Tony crashed. Ouch, I rode back but by the time I got there, he was already on his bike riding. Scraped up pretty good on various parts but seems OK though I know it's going to hurt in the morning. 🤣 FTR, the guy that took out Tony was not from our group. But actually, Tony said it was his fault as he was getting tired losing his composure and made a mistake getting too close to the other guy's wheel when he swung over and took his wheel out. 

I can smile the first couple of miles as I hold a warmup pace. Then we take turns switching at the front for 1 mile turns. Works well for us until we get involved with other riders.

Take A Tumble Tony............Only joke because he is OK. He hit the other guy's wheel on a short little hill so we were doing about 15. Good thing it didn't happen sooner when we were rolling at a better rate.

Walked 2.25 miles with WoJSTL early this morning.

Rode 35 miles a little later.

Rode 22 miles in town.  Traffic sucked for a Sunday.  The nice weather is getting people out of their houses.  Unfortunately, many of them are mostly just getting in their cars.

40 miles at 16.7 average speed. Gina looked strong and said she felt good. I was thinking 30 after a good effort yesterday but once we were about 10 miles in, she suggested 40. Darn Gina, my legs were tired but why not! Jose rode with us too. About 10 miles before the coast (end of trail) we ran into a couple of guys at a park. We chatted for a bit as I know a couple of guys from their club. Then they took off and we did about 1 minute later. We had a plan to hold a certain speed into the wind. The locals will tell you that this section gets windy. So these guys are about 40 yards ahead, I'm thinking nothing of it. Heck, I expected them to take off. But a mile later we pass them. They hop on the back for a while then a mile later, the guy in green goes around. He lifts the pace but we have a plan so I continue. He pulls away and soon looking back. I'm wondering why the guy in red hasn't gone yet. Then about 5 minutes later, he sprints around like a bat out of hell to catch the other guy. A race plan, against us and Gina? OK ha ha ha!

So watching the guys and they seem to be in the same exact spot since they launched. Maybe 75 yards ahead but not pulling away any longer. Then later, I notice they are coming back and still holding our pace. I had been at the front for 20 miles at this point. Other than a couple of short breaks as Gina took the front for a bit. But Jose has just been sitting on the back as I set the pace for Gina. So at this point, I said F it as they keep looking back while fading. So I told Jose to take the front but kept the pace. Then 2 miles before we hit the coast, we catch up.

We just go around holding out pace still. Then about 1 mile before the coast, They sprint around. Jose jumps on the rather quickly but I let them pull away a bit not wanting to gap Gina. Not even sure if she is going to hop on or just stay back. So I see she is on my wheel and so I start to close the gap on the guys. I do so gently not wanting to leave Gina behind. So we catch up then go around as they can't hold the pace much longer. Just a little fun time with a couple guys who decided that they didn't like being passed by a girl I guess. Could have been that or could have been that we have mutual friends and they didn't want them to know we passed them, I dunno!

But it was a fun little game and Gina always surprises me when she decides to go for it. Again, pretty windy by the coast but a 1/4 mile segment on Strava, she posted a 21.1 average speed when we went around. At the beach stop, she told me that she was feeling good and if that I had chased those guys right off the bat, she could have kept up the sprint.  Then she said that she could have gone even faster if I needed her to ha ha ha! 

We'd been doing 30 mile rides only over the last 6 months of so. She rides Sundays only so not much saddle time. Past few times when we get out there, she says let's do 40 so I think her fitness is coming back.

Seriously, I get my best rest when Gina takes the front. She controls her effort really well. The others always seem to race off so it's not much rest.

My legs were burning today so I asked her to take the front for a bit after the first 7 miles or so.

Oh!  21.1 average speed the last 1/4 mile to the coast, into the wind, without any shoes on!

Another short break after Gina took the front for a bit. Heck, if Gina wanted to apply herself, I wouldn't  have any use for my male ride partners ha ha ha!

26 down, 14 to go. Hopefully we get a tailwind. Gina telling me how good she feels today.

20 on the roadie. Didn’t get back from Lincoln as soon as I hoped. Just as well because it was last day of Junk Jaunt. At least traffic was ok by the time I got out in late afternoon. Strava said I recorded my 2nd fastest time ever on that loop. Surprised me!

35.5 miles on a group ride. No wind, some humidity, and low 80°F. Flat with some rough chip and tar roads. Most of the gravel was pounded in pretty well.

27 miles, 17 of it was on a different trail I pushed my bike up these steps from the Allegheny river trail. The trail is quite scenic, a girl from Colorado I talked to was impressed.

27 miles, 1,598 with my buddy Sandra. Changed up a bit on direction and took her to a really steep climb. 9% average for a bit with a pitch up to 11%. We were on the lower slope when she said it was tough. If you think this is tough,  you're going to hate me when we hit the chapel climb ha ha ha! I think she did on the climb but the rest of the ride, she was pretty happy with the course. And that climb made the rest of the usual climbs feel like ant hills. She liked the ride!

448 miles for the month of Sept and 18,886 ft of gain.

I'm surprised that she's always looking for a climb. She has more huevos than most the guys I know ha ha ha!

I bought a Breezer Doppler Team bike with 650bx47 tires from Nashbar when they were going out of business back in February 2019. It was going to be my Katy Trail and night riding bike. However WoJSTL decided that she wanted to start riding with me so we got a Schwinn Twinn MTB tandem. The poor Breezer has been hanging in the garage neglected mostly; however, I'm doing a 5-day Katy Trail ride on it starting on October 11th.  

I gave my son my Windsor Tourist that I used for things like the Katy Trail. I'm at 5 bikes including two old J.C. Higgins antiques one of which is used to hold flower pots in the side yards.

Boy was I optimistic, I’ve run several times since, never really hit my stride.

10 miles. Rain went away so I got to ride the gravel bike some.

30.7 miles with 1,978 ft of gain. Solo Saturday. Bad day, good ride! Forgot my jersey (old beat up spare behind the seat emergency jersey today). Had a flat about half way through. A joy fixing a flat in 100 degree temps. Max of 102 and average of 105. Just riding around riding with no real course in mind. Up and down some hills. 

 

Of course when you hit the 8%, it's going to get hot ha ha ha!

 

Like I said, 94 here and just starting the climb.

This little butt kicker up Sycamore Cyn to a women's prison camp. I would go up the little section to the left but it's supposed to be a private road.

Gate closed here. I think it goes up into the mountains. Good thing it's closed or I'd be tempted ha ha ha!

At the top of the Sycamore climb. Some 16-18% grades on Strava but it's only 8.6% average. But those steep pitches can really twist one's face ha ha ha!
