Yes, just a couple miles away. Road still closed when I left for work this morning. I heard from a friend that the impact shook her house about half mile away as the crow flies. We see these helicopters and their teams out on training flights quite frequently. It is really tragic for the families, the crew, the Guard, and our little community.

sheep_herder ★ Posted January 21, 2021 Share #4 Posted January 21, 2021 Oldest neighbor girl is a helicopter pilot stationed in New York. I think she returned to NY after serving overseas.

sheep_herder ★ Posted January 21, 2021 Share #7 Posted January 21, 2021 Pretty sure she flies the 'big' ones. She married another pilot when in NY.
groupw Posted January 21, 2021 Share #8 Posted January 21, 2021 We have Chinooks at our National Guard base. We have been fortunate so far. My best friend from high school lost his nephew in the relief work in the Himalayas after that earthquake a few years ago. He was doing some tricky hovering as they tried to get some aid in or people out of a remote village and couldn’t hold it. I think he was the only one that passed as the rest of the crew were on the ground if I remember right. 1
