Popular Post MickinMD ★ Posted January 22, 2021 Popular Post Share #1 Posted January 22, 2021 I went to see my Dr. today to follow-up on last week's blood test. My 8-week avg. blood sugar A1c had dropped to 8.3%, 7 is the normal goal, but he was extremely pleased it dropped from 11.3 to 8.3. He was thinking of tweaking my meds to a little stronger, until I showed him the printout of the charts (screen captures of my phone Freestyle Libre app) I posted here a few days ago. I showed my my 90 day avg. blood sugar was 164 mg/dL and my 30 day avg. was 160, I pulled out my cell phone and showed him on the Freestyle Libre app that the last 7 day average was 153 mg/dL. That corresponds to just under an A1c of 7 and the trend is down! I also showed him I had never gone below 70 mg/dL - the hypotonic danger level - and that I haven't gotten to high danger level (over 240) in the last 60 days. I told him my diet has greatly improved and my use of supplemental insulin has dropped from 48 units/day to 15. I also mentioned that my research-nurse sister recommended not micromanaging my blood sugar and potentially overdoing supplemental insulin where becoming hypotonic is potentially very dangerous to those with diabetes and high blood pressure. Doc said, "I think your sister is on to something there," and decided I should keep doing what I'm doing: no tweaking. He added that the transition down from 11.3 may have influenced the 8.3 to higher than what it may be otherwise. In three months, we may be able to begin reducing the number of diabetes meds I take. 5

Longjohn ★ Posted January 23, 2021 Share #4 Posted January 23, 2021 Congratulations, I am so glad you are taking what you eat seriously. I used to roll my eyes when you talked about what you eat but Tried not to say anything. Most of your blood numbers were better than mine.
