Kirby Posted January 23, 2021 Share #2 Posted January 23, 2021 The figure skating championships just completed. NBC and NBC Sports split the broadcasts with NBC getting the most popular events, and NBC Sports getting everything else. But they also streamed everything on Peacock which was nice because they even had streams to watch the practice sessions and they showed the entire event - every skater and no commercials. The best part was that they had no commentators, so nobody talked through the programs. I expect the TdF will end up much the same, with stages on NBC on the weekend and either some stages on related cable channels, or just streamed on Peacock. maddmaxx ★ Posted January 23, 2021 Share #3 Posted January 23, 2021 Just a consolidation. Expect most of the sports to be available on Peacock and USA. USA will be absorbing the NASCAR portions of NBCSN. The television landscape is evolving
donkpow Posted January 23, 2021 Share #4 Posted January 23, 2021 Streaming services are a much more cost efficient way of delivering specific content. Popular, too.

Add it to ESPN, CBS All Access, etc. Terrible for OTA reception, forcing you to subscribe either individually (for sports, all three as don't know which network will carry) or some cable/online package that includes them. ESPN is perhaps the worse as ESPN Live carries everything except the games on it's sister networks - ESPN1, ESPN2 etc. To receive them on the separate app, it checks your cable subscription for authorization. Square Wheels Posted January 23, 2021 Share #8 Posted January 23, 2021 We paid for NBC Sports Gold the year we went to Greece so we could watch TdF. Cost $50. That's a lot. Two big issues. Internet service on the island we were on was horrible. Then, when we were able to connect, NBC Sports Gold was not available in foreign countries. I was not happy. Kirby Posted January 24, 2021 Share #9 Posted January 24, 2021 I didn't realize it until the skating championships, but I got Peacock Premium free because I have comcast cable (or maybe comcast internet).

bikeman564™ Posted January 24, 2021 Share #11 Posted January 24, 2021 Makes sense w/ no sports on TV. I've gotten two credits from Comcast for this reason. I have no streaming services so I guess no TdF for me Will ESPN be next?
Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted January 24, 2021 Share #12 Posted January 24, 2021 NBC Sports hired on all the writers and staff from Bicycling magazine when it went belly up, so it really was only a matter of time.
