I don’t want to deal with training him to go outside or to a litter box when he has to go. I don’t have any kitty litter. I never expected to get another indoor cat so I dumped a ful bag of litter that was downstairs .he has been our feral cat for six years. This week’s weather is getting to him. I’ve been letting him come inside to eat and drink because the water freezes so fast outside. Now he doesn’t want to go back out. 2 2

Guest Posted February 10, 2021 Share #6 Posted February 10, 2021 I’ll send you another one too. We adopted a stray and he and our cat like to play all night. Running through the house and then wrestling around. He would make a good PA cat. Send me your address and I’ll UPS him to you.

I’ve been letting him come inside to eat and drink because the water freezes so fast outside. Now he doesn’t want to go back out. At our old home... we had a covered front porch. One day a long time ago... WoBG noticed a feral cat in the yard. Of course she had to feed the cat. Soon... there was the daily smorgasbord of cat food on the porch. Over the years, a LOT of cats found the food. I can't remember, but at one time possibly she had 14 cats living around the house. I'm allergic to cats. The winters... That's when I got to build a 'shelter' on the front porch for the cats. They had heated beds, and heated water bowl. Even a litter box.. (yeah I know they were outside, I gave up.. ) Some of the cats didn't get along with a few of the others. That always changed when it was -5o outside and they ALL huddled together on the heated beds. One blizzard... I got to work for 4 or 5 days in a row, staying at a hotel. I had our portable generator all ready to go. (Just in case...) WoBG insisted that I needed to have extension cords to the heated beds and water bowl. A few years later... WoBG tells me... she brought some the cats inside, but... they ALL wanted to go back outside. No cats here.... yet. Some of the guests... 6

There is a pretty big catfish in there that would make a nice snack. Oreo doesn’t like raw fish so he is probably safe. Longjohn ★ Posted February 10, 2021 Author Share #31 Posted February 10, 2021 I think Oreo must have been feeling poorly last night when he came in to eat. He has been in the same 10 X 10 area for 24 hours, mostly sleeping. When I come over to check on him he walks back under the chairs, he doesn’t want attention. I can’t tell if he has used the litter box but there is nothing on the carpet. 1

His ears that appeared to have been chewed on and he didn’t want me to touch are now oozing and I do not want to go near. I scratched his back and his belly and he laid down and purred. I don’t know how sore his ears are now, they must be itching because he wants me to scratch them. Maybe I’ll wear some rubber gloves and try to clean them and put some triple antibiotic ointment on them. He didn’t know what the litter box was for. Sometime in the night he snuck downstairs and pooped near the furnace. I brought the litter box downstairs and scooped up the turds and put them in the litter box. This morning I saw where he had buried the turds I put in there and had also pooped and buried some more on the other end of the litter box. Yay, he’s litter trained. (Hit the Staples Easy button) that was easy. When I go to Grove City for my Beer virus shot tomorrow owl have to pick up some real kitty litter. 2

Longjohn ★ Posted February 11, 2021 Author Share #39 Posted February 11, 2021 I guess I won’t have to worry about kitty litter tomorrow. I was looking out the window and noticed man tracks in the fresh snow coming up the driveway. I haven’t walked down the driveway since it snowed. I said somebody must have delivered something. There on the porch was a stack of packages. They all turned out to be for Oreo. He got a big box of kitty litter, a package of toy mice, an assortment of fancy canned cat food and a big package of assorted treats. I opened up the toy mice and tossed him one. He inspected it closely but didn’t play with it. I looked later and he had moved it. 1 1 1

Cats have nine lives, as far as I know he’s still on his first one. Hard to tell with a feral cat. He got into bleach down at the neighbor’s calf barn last summer. It bleached his fur to a reddish brown. That may have cost him a life. 1

I started buying canned cat food so I could sneak worm medicine in it and the next thing I knew he was getting it fairly often. It started out his big treat was when I drained the tuna juice off a can of tuna and put it over his cat kibble. Now he’s living high on the hog. 1

Longjohn ★ Posted February 12, 2021 Author Share #50 Posted February 12, 2021 There is a big yellow Tom that sneaks up after dark to see if there is any food left in the dish. He might be a barn cat. He runs away fast if he sees me. There is also a long haired black kitty that comes at night. He’s small, might be still a kitten. He runs away if he sees me.
