When they used a defibrillator on me the last time I had a cardiac arrest when I came back around there were doctors injecting adrenaline and drawing blood and barking out orders, they had a whole trauma team working on me. With this vest there will be none of that. The directions say when it revives you go directly to the ER. 1

Popular Post MickinMD ★ Posted March 5, 2021 Popular Post Share #205 Posted March 5, 2021 Hire people to do some stuff! It's a couple less things on your mind. I have a cousin in her 80's whose knees are hurting her to the point where she needed to hire a woman to clean house. She's not in a financial position to pay much and I told her I'd help her out. A friend of her daughter's who knows her well and who my cousin helped out when she was young heard about it and volunteered to clean her house every 3 weeks for $5 in gas money! My cousin has been in a much better mood ever since, without worrying about her house and little things like a slat under her bed coming loose and the cleaning woman fixed it for her.

I found a box on the ramp yesterday addressed to me, it was a second vest. I’m supposed to change the vest every day or two and wash the other one. Reassembling the electrode harness into the new vest is a PITA. Hospice stepped up their game this week and sent an aide for today and tomorrow. I’m going to start caring for her needs myself if needed. Tomorrow is the seventh day and my ten pound restriction was for seven days. 4

I have a follow up visit with my PCP tomorrow. She is going to check how the hematoma on my arm at the site of the first catheterization is doing. Starting with a stop at Esther’s credit union to deposit her disability check and waiting behind an alcoholic that was having the one teller look up all his transactions for the past month. I was just ready to leave with the check still in my hand when he finally left. Fifteen minutes tying up the only teller is rude. Then I got behind every driver that thinks going 10 mph under the speed limit on a two lane road with no passing zone is ok. Topped off with people that stop at a roundabout because they don’t know what to do and by the time I walked into the do tor’s office my blood pressure was up to normal as was my heart rate. 120/60 65 bpm heart rate. 3 1

As someone who has largely trusted the medical profession (family in it, and I've generally had good experiences), I have to say I'm sorry both for what you went through there, but everything health-wise you have to deal with now. Sorry Lj, I am just so disappointed in the care you're getting. If you were at our hospital, things would be a lot different. Well, I guess you'd be in Marquette; we don't have a cath lab. But you'd be getting better treatment! I was planning on taking that gadget home with me or at least taking a closer look at it. When they took it off my wrist they put it on the top shelf where I couldn’t reach it with my IV in my left arm and the hematoma in my right arm. It had a pump attached to it and the clear vinyl thingy underneath and a hard brace thing on top. When they moved my stuff to the new room it got tossed. The doctor blamed the people doing the blood draw for putting pressure bandages on my arm after they drew blood but I was on so many blood thinners they had to. Popular Post Longjohn ★ Posted March 13, 2021 Popular Post Share #250 Posted March 13, 2021 I had to call the hospice emergency number today on my wife. She was very lethargic at breakfast and only ate half of her waffle. She has been sleeping ever since. She had not peed today and that is not like her. I figured her catheter was plugged. The nurse showed up and had trouble waking her and when she did wake up she was confused and couldn’t tell the nurse where she was. The nurse figured she would try flushing the catheter before changing it. It flushed just fine so I don’t know where the fluid is going when she drinks but the catheter is not plugged. The nurse showed me how to flush the catheter and left the syringe and the distilled water so I could check it myself. By the time the nurse was ready to leave Esther was more awake and knew where she was and knew my name. Being a caregiver is not for sissies.
