Usually, by the end of March, we here in SE VA are completely free of the threat of any more cold/coldish weather until late November.

Meteorilogical "Spring" etc. is not a real season: it's a TV invention based on 3 month intervals in whole months (Spring is all of Mar, Apl, May) so that it's easier for TV meteorologists to quote statistics: which are usually listed for whole months.

In my neck of the woods, we can get whacked with major snows in early March but the ground's too warm for snow to stick by the end of March, so the standard astronomical definition of the Spring equinox, when the plane of the equator points directly at the Sun which is on its way to rising above it (day becoming longer than night) for your hemisphere, works pretty good for us.

That's why I've always loved reaching March: you can see the light at the end of Winter's tunnel.

We always get snow in April. In March, there are often big storms, but a lot of them are Nor’easters that just graze us.

I've had dandelions blooming in my yard for at least two weeks now.  Other weeds are sprouting in my flower beds and in the cracks in my driveway.

My Mom always thought the seasons should line up with what is commonly called the meteorological seasons.  December isn't autumn and September shouldn't be summer.

With global warming, things seem to be even more confusing.  But I remember as a kid back in the 60's, the weather could turn noticeably cooler in early September.  Definitely a change from August.
