Popular Post Dirtyhip Posted August 22, 2014 Popular Post Share #1 Posted August 22, 2014 122 pounds this morning. BMI is 20 I'm cool with this weight, I think. The six pack is still hidden under a little layer of belly fat. I think I am OK with that. I believe I would have to be watching every morsel to hit that type of body fat percentage and live far too disciplined for happiness.. I have to be able to still eat cake once in a while. haha

Longjohn ★ Posted August 22, 2014 Share #3 Posted August 22, 2014 My six pack isn't hidden, it's on the shelf in the fridge in plain sight. Congratulations. My wife always encourages me to eat stuff I am trying to avoid. She says things like "A little bit won't hurt you, we don't have it that often, etc."
jsharr ★ Posted August 22, 2014 Share #4 Posted August 22, 2014 Awesome. The older I get, the harder it is to lose weight, I am putting on muscle slowly and can see the changes in my body but they are smaller and slower to come than when I was a young jsharr. Dirtyhip Posted August 22, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted August 22, 2014 My six pack isn't hidden, it's on the shelf in the fridge in plain sight. Congratulations. My wife always encourages me to eat stuff I am trying to avoid. She says things like "A little bit won't hurt you, we don't have it that often, etc." Luckily, my husband and I encourage each other to eat healthy. We don't really chastise each other when we fall off the wagon, either. We make jokes like "Uh oh, I see cookies" or something like that. If I want to go out for mexican food, he's like "I've been craving that too" We seem to have a healthy balance. He doesn't buy bad things at the grocery store. He tends to shop like I do. That helps a lot. If it isn't here, I can't eat it.
Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted August 22, 2014 Share #7 Posted August 22, 2014 Good job. I'd like to get to that level one day. To reach a BMI of 20 I'd have to lose 60 pounds. Don't think that's happening.
tybeegb Posted August 22, 2014 Share #8 Posted August 22, 2014 Way to go. I'm hiding a keg under my little layer of fat.
Longjohn ★ Posted August 22, 2014 Share #9 Posted August 22, 2014 Reaching fitness goals is really cool. It's a bit weird too, like you I am fighting a disease and I know that all of my healthy lifestyle things may not make much difference in the end but it can't hurt either. I did really well on a 5K run I did this summer and I'm not a runner.
Dirtyhip Posted August 22, 2014 Author Share #10 Posted August 22, 2014 One of my friends hugged me the other day and then put her hands on my rib cage and said "Check you out...little Riblet" I sure hope the riblet name doesn't stick. She usually calls me Gopro. Getting to 20 BMI has been constantly watching the eating and exercising a lot. I use all kinds of exercise methods between biking, walking, elliptical, weights and rower. I say no a ton at work regarding food. There is a constant war with sabotage.

Square Wheels Posted August 23, 2014 Share #14 Posted August 23, 2014 Yikes. I'm at 27. I don't think there is a lot of value to a bmi though. I doesn't take into account body size. I'm not a little guy. My next weight loss cycle starts soon. Planning to drop another 10, then 10 more in the spring.

Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted August 24, 2014 Share #16 Posted August 24, 2014 Congrats. How do you know what your BMI is. I have no idea There are many sites that calculate your BMI. It's height in inches divided by weight. It's an indicator of body mass but it fails to take into account the composition of that mass. A young athlete will have the same BMI as an old sedentary person given the same height and weight values. I'm 5' 5", 185 lbs. My BMI classifies me as obese when I'm not. To be in the "normal" range I would need to weigh 150. If I got that low I could be an extra in Schindlers List.
2Far ★ Posted August 24, 2014 Share #17 Posted August 24, 2014 LOL. Mine's 29.8. I take encouragement in the fact that my internist told me that BMI is a better indicator for starving Ethiopians than for someone with my body type. Re. the six pack: I exchanged mine for a keg several years ago.

MoseySusan Posted August 24, 2014 Share #19 Posted August 24, 2014 Woo-hoo! The only consistent marker of longevity across subgroups is calorie deficit. I'm at 24.8% body fat down from 31.7% at this time last year.

Former member Posted August 24, 2014 Share #21 Posted August 24, 2014 20.9 BMI here, but I'd rather have a few more pounds of muscle on my legs.
SuzieQ Posted August 24, 2014 Share #22 Posted August 24, 2014 Well according to an online bmi calculator mine is 19.3. I don't think it's anything I would ever follow, for me it's about how my clothes fit
Chopped Liver Posted August 24, 2014 Share #23 Posted August 24, 2014 Currently (well, last time I stepped on that cursed scale) at 25.4 Goal weight would have me at 23.6.
