For those wondering... 

it was supported on Jack stands just forward of the axle. One side of the Jeep on its own weight. We were using that Jack and “extension” just to raise things enough to get the shackle bolts aligned.

I had to cut the shackle bolts out with a sawzall.  The long bolts that bolt the shackle to the jeep body I got out.  Took a few days of penetrating oil and a big breaker bar because I could not get the impact up there to them.

I was much more careful with the bolts that bolted the shackles to the body.  The nuts were welded into the frame.  If i broke a weld or a bolt it would have been bad news and extended my play time by a couple of days.
