TrentonMakes Posted August 26, 2014 Share #9 Posted August 26, 2014 I'm not a fan, but a local sandwich shop used to put a few slices on their Italian hoagies once in a while. Mid-2000s. That place (which was run by two brothers who were easily in their 80s) is closed now.
Parr8hed Posted August 26, 2014 Share #10 Posted August 26, 2014 Every now and then we get a package and make fried balonga sandwiches. I think it was this winter when I last had some.
Dirtyhip Posted August 26, 2014 Share #11 Posted August 26, 2014 A bunch of years ago I ate one slice of that. It was the lunch being served up on a family visit. I am not a big fan of the pressed meats. Once in a while I may have some salami. My Mom Sometimes brings me salami from Columbus foods. Their stuff tastes pretty good, but it still has those darn nitrates. I ask her to bring their natural line of salame, but she doesn't understand so well about those kind of things. She just brings what she is used to buying. It is sweet of her to bring me anything at all.

Zealot Posted August 26, 2014 Share #15 Posted August 26, 2014 I grew up eating bologna and potted meat. It was cheap and my mom had to feed a bunch of kids on very little. Dirtyhip Posted August 26, 2014 Share #17 Posted August 26, 2014 I am thankful that I have the ability to shop for the healthful food. For Christmas, I plan on donating $ to the food bank. They get so much more out of that, compared to donating canned foods. They can buy a lot of food, because of the discounts they get in bulk.
Former member Posted August 26, 2014 Author Share #18 Posted August 26, 2014 Is bologna much cheaper than ham? I have never purchased bologna or even noticed the price. The cheap ham is usually $3.99 a pound at the deli counter.

Dirtyhip Posted August 26, 2014 Share #27 Posted August 26, 2014 Have you had squirrel? Yes, but I was quite young during the squirrel escapade. My family has served many wild things to me: Elk, deer, boar, abalone, fish of all types, rabbit, squirrel, ducks, geese, turkey, dove, quail, grouse, bear, etc. I don't remember liking that bear. Rabbit freaked me out, because they made jokes that it was my pet cat as they grilled it up. Bastards!

But still the center bubbles. Good memories! I may go buy some bologna and make a sandwich tonight.

My dad was the bologna cooker in our family. It was often done at breakfast and served on toasted white bread with butter, a slice of processed cheese, and then I would add grape jelly! Dad ate his without the jelly.
