That is very nearly the exact route I used to do when I lived in Carlsbad.  

I did mean that you can go watch the dogs play at dog beach.  Speaking of dog beaches, I used to go to one close to Hodad's in Ocean Beach, one of the best burgers you can get anywhere (also some of the best onion rings, if you are into those).  Hodad's is worth a trip just by itself, you should go and let me know if it is still as I remember it.

I don't know that I will repeat it again.  It was definitely interesting, but I think there prettier places I can find - near that route or elsewhere. 

I'm trying to determine if this stretch - dotted line on Strava - is rideable on my Tarmac or not. Probably (looks like an older road), but not sure why it shows as dotted.  It would be a nice bypass of the highway bike lane along Lake Hodges.
