Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted April 16, 2021 Share #1 Posted April 16, 2021 The secondary fermenter. The homebrew is done. Yeast did a good job converting fermentable sugars to alcohol. The secondary allows the beer to clarify and the solids to settle to the bottom. Next weekend we will bottle the beer. OG 1.068 FG 1.010. 3
dinneR ★ Posted April 16, 2021 Share #2 Posted April 16, 2021 I just opened my first few bottles of winter ale. It was the first time I had enough bottles. So far it's my favorite. I usually give away most of my beer, but I might drink most of these myself.
Ralphie ★ Posted April 16, 2021 Share #3 Posted April 16, 2021 I still have a couple of bottles of my first failed homebrew. They spew when opened and seem to have some solids and taste bad. Oops!

When my daughter had some friends over one opened one up by mistake because they were in bottles like Stone IPA, but with black caps. As I saw him trying to choke it down I told him he could pitch it.
Ralphie ★ Posted April 16, 2021 Share #6 Posted April 16, 2021 I might open one up tonight and take a pic for posterity's sake. I kept them because I invested so much effort in them.

Want another, I've got lots of it.
smudge ★ Posted April 17, 2021 Share #8 Posted April 17, 2021 Ralph, your beer is infected. #7, don't let your fermentation get too warm. #offflavors

I just finished watching a whole documentary series about beer brewing where they had a secondary fermenter very similar to yours:

I'd suggest you save them, sprinkle some on your plants, and see if the deer choke on it as much as much as your daughter's friend did. You may have just invented an organic deer repellent! Just imagine the wealth and riches!
