Randomguy Posted May 1, 2021 Share #1 Posted May 1, 2021 ? I am making a spice cake for RO, because she has never had one before. I took it out to test the doneness, and when I put it back in the oven, it fell a bit. Has this ever happened to you? 1
Dirtyhip Posted May 1, 2021 Share #2 Posted May 1, 2021 Yeah. You can’t open the door or shake the cake around if it has not set. Otherwise, this happens.
Dirtyhip Posted May 1, 2021 Share #3 Posted May 1, 2021 Best way to test it is to use a toothpick while it is in the oven. Don’t lift it out.

I used a fork to test, I have no toothpicks. Why is it toothpicks and not teethpicks?

shootingstar Posted May 1, 2021 Share #8 Posted May 1, 2021 Or you could put in a paring knife to test cake.

While it wasn't a cake, the one I have yet to figure out is a one time incident baking a pecan pie. Somehow, the crust rose to the top. While I can understand the liquid passing through to the bottom with perhaps a small leak allowing the crust to "float", but pecan halves? Keep trying to repeat the experience without success, but stuck with all these pecan pies to eat with each failed attempt.

I think this is why I was never too keen on pecan pie because of all the sugar it required.
