Popular Post TrentonMakes Posted September 2, 2014 Popular Post Share #1 Posted September 2, 2014 My MTB ride on Saturday went through a network of trails around Baldpate Mountain, the highest elevation in Mercer County, NJ (480 feet). Interestingly, the summit is only a mile and a half from the Delaware River (elev. 30 feet). These panoramas never come out as nice as I'd like them to. The light was flat. Nice little picnic grove here, and a much nicer view than the photo suggests. The trails varied all over, from smooth double track all the way to some of the rock-gardenest rock gardens I've ridden walked through. This is probably average. Someone's gotta get a chain saw and get this stuff out of here. (Does anyone else see an alligator head? I didn't notice it when I was there, but it seemed obvious when I looked at the photo this morning) P.S.: I need new grips. Just a little bit down the hill from the photo at the top, you get a glimpse of the Delaware. You can see one of the piers of the Washington Crossing Bridge, 2-1/2 miles away, and it's not so evident from the photo but I could see a few smokestacks in Trenton that must be ten miles away. I stood at this spot for a little while. With the pines in the foreground it reminded me a little of Maine. My first mountain bike was a cheapo Mongoose that I practically destroyed on a rocky downhill run in the Catskills. As I exited the park on Saturday I rode down the [appropriately named] "Switchback Trail" and that ride reminded me of the trail that ruined the Mongoose. I'm still around 280 pounds so carrying me down a rocky trail is a lot to ask of any bike. But the Rockhopper took all I could give it, as it pretty much always has. (well - except for the times I've crashed it) _____________ one extra shot, from the Ben Franklin Parkway in Philadelphia, from our family's outing on Sunday. Statue of one Gen. Tadeusz Kosciuszko, who I believe is famous for guarding the Embassy Suites.

Zealot Posted September 2, 2014 Share #3 Posted September 2, 2014 You did clean that log, right? That's an easy bunny hop. Does kinda look like an alligator! And yes, you could use some new grips! ;-) Nice photos!
TrentonMakes Posted September 2, 2014 Author Share #4 Posted September 2, 2014 You did clean that log, right? That's an easy bunny hop. uh... well, you see, the photo makes it look smaller than it really is. I cleared some smaller ones. Bunny hopping over bigger stuff (12"+) is a skill I admit I need to practice. Maybe this one hasn't been there too long - I didn't see any chainring marks on it. jsharr ★ Posted September 2, 2014 Share #7 Posted September 2, 2014 Dang your bars are wide! Years ago I cut my bars WAY down so I could ride my bike onto the the boat dock at the marina. Now wide bars seem weird to me.

TrentonMakes Posted September 2, 2014 Author Share #9 Posted September 2, 2014 Dang your bars are wide! I have been known to snag a bar end on a sapling - regardless, for comfort's sake I wouldn't want them any narrower.
Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted September 2, 2014 Share #10 Posted September 2, 2014 Statue of one Gen. Tadeusz Kosciuszko, who I believe is famous for guarding the Embassy Suites. Yeah, and given your reputation I had my eyes on you the whole time. Nice pictures! Almost makes that whole mountain bike/trail riding stuff seem like real bike riding.

Cork screw, tooth pick, can opener?
TrentonMakes Posted September 2, 2014 Author Share #12 Posted September 2, 2014 Are all the light poles in Philly Swiss Army Light Poles? What functions do they have? Cork screw, tooth pick, can opener? The Ben Franklin Parkway is lined with street light poles on which are hung flags of every nation, in alphabetical order. You can see the plaque that reads "Switzerland" just above the red signal in my photo. The photo below (from the web) shows the view down the Parkway toward City Hall. The Parkway was designed to look like the Champs-Elysees.
