Did you ever keep your freezer on the porch?

When I was a kid, we lived in a house out in the country that had an enclosed breezeway area with jalousie windows between the kitchen and the garage.  Not really a porch, but not heated and not part of the main living area.  We probably called it a porch.  Anyway, we had a freezer and a washing machine out there, as well as outdoor furniture.

Pepsi coolers belonged on front porch along with ice cream makers.

That same area between our house and garage was where my Dad made ice cream.  I don't remember where he kept the ice cream maker, but most likely in the same "porch" area near the freezer.  :)

Your brother still has these conveniences.

He calls them Staff and servants.  :nodhead:

I bought a new vintage clothesline. It spins around....  I'm the envy of the neighborhood.

Our clothesline was two or three long wires probably 30 feet or so between galvanized steel T-bars set in concrete.

Not only did my mother hang all of our laundry out there, it was also where she hung the chickens by their feet and cut their heads off.  Fried chicken for dinner.   :nodhead:

Some of my neighbors have done so.  I have a small kitchen and if I get another freezer I may put it on the enclosed 12' x 10' back porch, which is now L-shaped because I stole enough space from it to put a closet coming off the kitchen to hold a stacked washer/dryer.

I stopped using the old freezer when I stopped hoarding food and my new refrigerator is about 5'9" tall with a 1' wide side-by-side freezer, so I don't think I'll need one going forward unless I move a girlfriend or relatives in.

My refrigerator (to be delivered June 4th) is 69" tall and the freezer section on the left is wide enough to lay a 12" frozen pizza flat.  That will be enough room for me.

The washer/dryer will go in this space on the left being created from the kitchen out onto the porch:

The porch will still have plenty of room for my bike, lawn furniture, etc:

The bathtub is in!

This could be a good time to give Jennifer a call to see how she's doing.  :nodhead:

I remember my family having a washing machine with a roller like that in the 50's!

I have to extend grace to Road Runnet because he's an important person but please remember this thread is about deep freezers on porches. Some of you called them chest freezers for no good reason.

I was just trying to spice things up.  Nothing is as boring as a thread about freezers, unless there is a pic of a hot 1950's woman standing in front of it wearing a dress and high heels.  :slow-dance-smiley:

That's not a clothesline. That is a modern day solar dryer. Get with the times!

We were never fancy enough to have a freezer.  In our apartment when I grew up the small refrigerator had a mini-freezer section.  it was big enough to hold about three ice trays, a couple cans of frozen orange juice and maybe one package of frozen vegetables.  Up in the Catskills, however, the house had a "porch" refrigerator.  It was the old refrigerator that got moved  to the utility room which was the enclosed part of the back porch area.   That refrigerator was used only for soda and maybe beer. :nodhead:

I lived in Northern Newfoundland for 9 years, where for 8 months a year, you didnt need a deep freezer outside, you just had to keep your stuff outside.

I have used the space between the door and the storm door as a freezer...

A freezer on the front porch?  Heck no!  We are not no Hoi Palloi underclass kinda people. We reserve the front porch for a rocker and a worn out couch.  Cause we classy like that
