I had a sapling but didn't know what it was. I thought that it was either a son of a beech or son of a birch. So I asked an expert: a woodpecker. He told me that it was the best piece of ash that he had ever put his pecker in.

I’m wrong. 40,000 is the average number of trees in my woods. A little more than 60 acres of Springwood is mature forest.

But what's the makeup of the woods down there? Mostly pine?  Something else?  And what kind of soil do you have? Sand? Clay? Normal dirt?

Pretty much! But we're pretty excited about the apple trees. Fingers crossed.

The peach is at home. We have a bigger one, but we like to have two.

Primarily I have hardwoods, oak and birch. Behind the pond is planted with pine. The dirt here is red clay.
