ChrisL Posted May 26, 2021 Share #1 Posted May 26, 2021 I went down to my local Roadrunner Sports & got set up with some new running shoes & custom orthotics. I had been running pain free on the treadmill prior to Covid and although not going back to the gym I figured (hoping) good shoes on grass & dirt will also work. As much as many of you love them I just couldn’t love Hoka’s. They aren’t comfortable on my feet. I stuck with tried & true ASICS. We’ll see how it goes. 2 1 3

I find my weight is easier to manage when I run just a few miles 2X a week and my blood glucose stays lower too. Even when I’m riding a lot my weight & glucose are harder to control. Running has always kept my numbers down so I’m gonna find a way to work it back in. 3

jsharr ★ Posted May 26, 2021 Share #5 Posted May 26, 2021 Yep, you need to be in good shape to outrun the newly hired competition that is going to be running you down to take your cushy job. 1
groupw Posted May 26, 2021 Share #6 Posted May 26, 2021 I have not run since before my 2nd shot on April 9. Need to get back at it. I like that it strengthens my core and helps reduce the belly more than cycling alone.

maddmaxx ★ Posted May 26, 2021 Share #8 Posted May 26, 2021 I'm not running but I have been taking 10 mile rides and a lot of walking. The walking seems to take off weight better than the biking does. The latter is better for my heart and lungs I think. May has already topped every month back to the beginning of last year.
Square Wheels Posted May 28, 2021 Share #9 Posted May 28, 2021 I love my treadmill, I may never run outside again, at least around my house. It has a slight bounce to it (by design, not just because I am a fatass), and it more forgiving that the road. Plus, I LOVE iFit.
Further Posted May 28, 2021 Share #10 Posted May 28, 2021 I enjoy trail running, a mix of easy and steep technical type stuff. Relax on the easy parts and dial it up on steeps, the rocky rooty stuff keeps you on your toes. When in good shape I enjoy the road also, just go all zen like and float along. I have never enjoyed a treadmill run, or a trainer ride.
Ralphie ★ Posted May 28, 2021 Share #11 Posted May 28, 2021 On a similar subject, the recommended 10000 steps per day is a lot! Our work challenge was 7500 and that was enough for me!

I felt good and could have run more but held back. I’ll get another run in over the weekend. So far so good.
ChrisL Posted May 28, 2021 Author Share #14 Posted May 28, 2021 However.... I rode with my buddy yesterday after work. We finished up around 7 PM and were chatting by our cars for a bit. After the ride the temps cooled down so I put a jacket on but still had my legs uncovered. So I go to get in my car and wham double hammy cramp!!!! I had to gingerly get out, rub the cramps out & had the heat cranked & seat warmers on to keep my hammies loose for the drive home. Watch out, riding can be evil too!
