Road Runner Posted June 20, 2021 Share #1 Posted June 20, 2021 I was riding at about 20 mph trying to catch the rider ahead of me. Of course, I had my head down for maximum aero advantage. I never saw it until I was airborne. 1 8

The gates are there to prevent cars from traveling on old US 17. This 9 mile portion of 17 was replaced with a new 4-lane highway, so they blocked this section off and designated it strictly for walking, jogging and cycling. You are supposed to go around the gate. I rode it many times and knew this, but my brain wasn't paying attention that day, for some reason. Since there isn't any traffic and on Father's Day, the place was essentially deserted, it was just me and the road (and the rider way up ahead of me). I guess I just zoned out staring at the pavement just a few feet ahead of my bike. The bike stopped at the gate but I didn't. 2
