Popular Post Longjohn ★ Posted June 22, 2021 Popular Post Share #1 Posted June 22, 2021 Actually it was a couple weeks ago. My son asked me if I was going to keep two vehicles. He offered to buy one of them. My pilot I turned into a guy car. I put a trailer hitch and roof rack/ kayak racks on it. Since I was taking care of my wife I haven’t been kayaking or cycling or hauling my zeroturn in to mow my mother-in-law’s grass. I have been driving my wife’s Odyssey. It is quieter and more comfortable to drive. Heated seats and all that. It’s front wheel drive and doesn’t have a hitch or roof rack. My son would buy either one. They both seat eight so his whole family would fit. It’s silly having two vehicles and keeping them both insured, licensed, and inspected. I’m thinking of selling/giving him the Odyssey and keeping the pilot. I need to get it up on a rack and do a close inspection of the frame, etc. My son’s car has a few issues and he needs to replace it.

Agree to a purchase price and then give it to him free. 6

If I was to buy anyone a car, LJ would be the guy I would do it for. Unfortunately, I don't have that kind of money lying around. 2 1
Longjohn ★ Posted June 22, 2021 Author Share #7 Posted June 22, 2021 My only concern is I have always had an extra car. But then again I wasn’t living alone. If a garage wanted me to drop a vehicle off to be worked on my wife would pick me up. I have hauled my bike to the shop and rode it home but that’s a lot of miles and the weather isn’t always agreeable. Also when I start working on my car, say I’m changing brake pads and rotors. After I get it torn apart I discover it needs calipers too. With one vehicle I would have to put the car back together and drive to the parts store and then come home and start over. I do have a nice non-Amish neighbor that lives just up the road that could help me out. I just thought of another possible solution if I need a vehicle. Four miles up the road is a uhaul rental. I could ride my bike up there and rent a truck if they have one available.

I have seen guys ride their tractors to the bar but town is a little far. Maybe I should buy a motorcycle as an extra vehicle? I see used motorcycles are selling at bargain prices this year.

Renting a vehicle as needed may be cheaper than insuring and licensing an unneeded vehicle.

I usually have an extra truck sitting around that you could borrow. 1

I would always have the 350 to ride in shitty weather.

A good point aboot living in the boondocks is liability insurance only for a spare car should be pretty darn cheap if he goes that route.

My son has an old Odyssey he drives to work and his wife has a newer one that they bought while the garage was rebuilding his third engine do to faulty replacement parts used in a timing belt change. They finally got the engine right but it has other issues and is going to need brakes.
