Popular Post MickinMD ★ Posted July 1, 2021 Popular Post Share #1 Posted July 1, 2021 The big thing was to unpack and check out how things work. There are some minor things remaining, mostly electrical. The lights in the hallways don't work and there's no light switch at the bottom of the stairs to the 2nd floor for the upstairs hallway light. There's a cgi outlet (built in circuit breaker) in the back of the cabinet above the above-range-microwave that's not working and is supposed to be fixed tomorrow. I ran a 15W extension cord to one of the outlets above the countertop and the microwave works fine. The porch lights are dusk-to-dawn and turn on automatically if you have the light switch set to on. But the front light flashes slow and the back one flashes fast. I don't know if it's a setting problem, a bulb problem or what, but the installation foreman said the guy seemed to be in a rush. There was a tear in one of the window screens and it's being replaced. The only really disappointing thing is that when I turn on the 65" Samsung TV I got Tuesday, the screen stays black and you hear a voice say to use your mobile app or your remote control to start setup. It was really packed well and we transported it carefully. A worker who recently bought the 55" version helped me unpack and then he couldn't figure out why there was no picture either. Back to Costco tomorrow for a replacement! I borrowed my brother Tim's 24" camper TV to make sure I have FIOS TV set up right - for the high def setup you need to run an HDMI cable from the set-top box to the TV, not a coax cable. It ran fine on my Tim's TV just as it did when the technician set it up on Friday. This is my chair until my awesome recliner arrives. I hope it doesn't end up out of stock. Here's the UPS tracking info, since the 3rd party shipping the stuff "created a label," there's a good chance it's in stock. But it's been 6 days since I ordered it. Estimated Delivery: Delivery date details will be available once they are provided by the carrier. Jun 24 - Thu 2:04 PM Shipper created a label, UPS has not received the package yet. I had two "oversized tray tables" I really like - the lighter shade on the right and bought two more ($15.43 at Walmart) to be my dinner table, end table, night stand, etc. This is the bed I got. It's a queen sized Beautyrest Pressuresmart Firm (between a firm and medium compared to some other brands) and instead of boxsprings I got it with a free-4th-of-July-sale electric base that raises the head of the bed considerably - it's raised a little in the 2nd picture. I got super pillows that were $99 with a buy-one-get-one-free sale that my sister says I'll love - I liked the one of six varieties I chose: it doesn't let my head sink too far (I'm a side sleeper) but it's not stiff. I taking my time picking out a headboard, nightstand, and drawers because the one's I've liked so far are out of stock for months. I used the bed as a sorting station I'll have to clear off and put the sheets and blankets and protective pad - the warranty on the mattress is void if you don't use one: I put my dishes and flatware in their cabinets and picked up my knife block from my brother's house and my cutting board: I'm making chicken noodle soup tomorrow in the Instant Pot. I have a set of 6 32 oz soup bowls and 6 16 oz. coffee mugs, one of each in my possession and the rest stored at my brother's house. The dishes and small bowls (6 each) are very white: chip-resistant porcelain: Dishwasher-safe, freezer-safe, and microwave-safe; plates can withstand heat up to 572 degrees F. They are listed on Amazon as 10.5" large dishes, 7.5" small dishes, and 5.9" bowls but they are actually 10 15/16", 7 15/16", and 6" that holds 16 oz. up to the rim - I like 11" large dishes: you don't run out of room! The washer and dryer have a bunch of dirty clothes I was too cheap to wash at the hotel. The washer will weigh its load and tell the dryer how long it needs to dry. I can't wait to try it out. The fridge and freezer seemed to fill up fast, but there's an empty shelf on the fridge (right) side hold a bunch of shelves that do in the doors. The construction foreman told me to wait a couple days for the large ice bin to fill, then throw it all away and to run a gallon of water via the door and toss that too, to make sure no contaminants that might have gotten in are a problem. Actually, the refrigerator has a changeable filter located at the upper right of the fridge, but I'll do it anyway. I have to learn how to adjust the shelf heights so I can properly store the important stuff: Almost all the out of control vegetation is gone and the fence will be put up, supposedly this week by they may wait for sub-feels-like-105° temps forecast for next week: 9

When the microwave's outlet didn't work, the contractor's installation foreman was still on the job and said to me, "The electrician (subcontracted) was in a rush to get everything done and I don't like that." I told him I had let Kristi, the interior coordinator, and Rich, the contractor, know that I could have stayed one more night in the hotel at State Farm's expense and would have spent several nights on my brother's or sister's couch afterward if that's what was needed to get everything done right. I'm sure they'll make it all right but I'm going to plug something into every electrical outlet in the house over the next week to make sure everything's properly set up. Meanwhile, I'm off this morning to Walmart, Dollar General, etc. to find some cheap waste paper baskets for the house and some storage cabinets for clothes, canned food, etc. until I decide how I want everything to be set up. I have to take a 65" TV whose screen doesn't work back to Costco whose box comes apart when you open it up and won't be easy to repack. I'll call Costco first and see how much I need to repackage it. This is the very inexpensive tool to do just that thing and this one tests gfi outlets for proper function. Get one and keep it in the kitchen junk drawer.

Also, I considered using the smaller, backyard-facing bedroom than the front bedroom because of street noise, but the insulation, etc. is so good that the front rooms are almost as quiet as King Tut's Tomb. I really like the dishes. I used to buy melamine (basically pressed wood fibers) 11" diameter dishes because I like a big plate. They'd begin to chip in a couple months of regular microwave use. The chip resistant, etc. porcelain dishes I got, 10 15/16" are fine.

You care about your diet..which probably a good starter right there.
MoseySusan Posted July 1, 2021 Share #20 Posted July 1, 2021 Yay! Back at home… About that refrigerator filtered water: yes, throw away the first gallon through the filter every time you replace it. And I wouldn’t be surprised if the first couple batches of ice have black stuff all over them. Throw all the ice away, too.

No. Go to your hardware store. Just plugging something in tells you you have a completes circuit. Not good enough. EDIT - Sorry Donk - I should have read the whole thread. MickinMD ★ Posted July 1, 2021 Author Share #23 Posted July 1, 2021 The electrician came out today and fixed all the electrical problems. He fixed the outlet over the microwave. The two hallway lights didn't light because there were no light bulbs in them. I had two 13W/75W equiv. on hand and that solved the problem. My complaint that there wasn't a light switch on the first floor for the upstairs hallway light was wrong: One of the three switches near the door is for that light - I thought it controlled the outdoor outlet, for which there is no switch. The flashing exterior porch lights have switches that can be set for them to do that and that was the problem - they were set wrong. The only remaining complaint I passed on to the contractor is that the two exterior porch lights are not screwed into the wall very stably - the back porch light can be easily rotated sideways and appears to be held on by one screw. Otherwise, things are fine except I've got some kind of dermatitis on my lower legs that I'm seeing my family doc at 5:30 pm today. I have kitchen-size trash bags but not trash can. I'm using a box for now and it's raining like hell so I'll take care of that and the Costco TV return tomorrow, weather permitting. 1
