Road Runner Posted July 16, 2021 Share #1 Posted July 16, 2021 Don't they have any streets that look like shit? I think the tour needs to ride through some bad areas, just make us Americans feel better about where we live.
jsharr ★ Posted July 16, 2021 Share #2 Posted July 16, 2021 They choose the route carefully and pay guys to go out and paint over any penises on the roads even! 1
Randomguy Posted July 16, 2021 Share #3 Posted July 16, 2021 I can't believe the tour is over already! Well, the exciting stages, anyway. It is all fast forwarding from here on out, but I suspect there has been a lot of that this year.

I hope you are proud of yourself. 1 1

Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted July 16, 2021 Share #6 Posted July 16, 2021 Wouldn't we be so disappointed if we found out the 'countryside' was all computer generated and the cyclists were all riding Pelotons in a studio... 3

I suspect you will be seeing a lot more years of Slovenian dominance at the Tour. He is only 22. When I was 22, I was, er.., well, maybe I better not say what I was doing. But I sure wasn't winning the TdF!!!

I haven't spent a lot of time in Europe but enough to know they don’t take kindly to litter. I never saw trash in the streets or crap laying around. I’ll never forget a visit to Holland as a kid. I was sitting in the shade on the grass eating a ice cream from a vendor at some public park. As I got toward the bottom I took the wrapper off and set it on the grass next to me. I had every intention of throwing it away but not at that moment. Some old Dutch dude starts screaming at me to pick the trash up. I’m like 12 and he’s all in my face arm up ready to hit me. I have an aunt who is as mean as a drunken soldier and she got between us and Jack slapped the old fucker screaming so fast in Dutch I don’t know what she said but the dude STFU and high tailed it out of there! She then smiled at me holding out her hand and said let me throw that away for you. As you can tell we don’t like littering in Holland. Ok thanks Tante Vickie! 1 3 2
Wilbur ★ Posted July 16, 2021 Share #9 Posted July 16, 2021 There are shite areas. The tour doesn't go through them though. St Denis is a good example these days.

It is a beautiful country, from Northern France to French Riviera along the Mediterranean and the Alps foothills. We did a day-trip from Paris to the Chateaus in the Loire Valley and I most loved the sunflower farms we passed during the drive where rows and rows of sunflowers bloomed across acres and acres of land as far as the eye could see. Since I speak French well enough to get by, I briefly considered renting my house in Maryland and renting a house on the French Riviera, perhaps in Cannes after I retired. But the separation from family and friends wasn't worth it to me.
shootingstar Posted July 17, 2021 Share #11 Posted July 17, 2021 Just have a feelin' there are whole neighbourhoods in Paris, Berlin that tourists normally don't wander into in big numbers. So we really don't know. There are areas, to me, felt worn and not looked after. For sure a small town in Europe is quite different than in North America...in terms of too much junk lying around outside. Now with the flood tearing through parts of Germany, Belgium... Ralphie ★ Posted July 17, 2021 Share #13 Posted July 17, 2021 The striking thing to me is how you don’t see suburban sprawl. Town is town and countryside is countryside.

Tizeye Posted July 17, 2021 Share #15 Posted July 17, 2021 The Swiss blame the French for sneaking across the border and putting graffiti on buildings and walls in industrialized areas along the railroad tracks.

I'm sure there a few Swiss rebels..for that country that tries to look so perfectly clean/pure.
