bikeman564™ Posted July 25, 2021 Share #1 Posted July 25, 2021 Sitting on my deck having a few beers watching a storm roll in then it turns on no rotation on the radar. It stays on for roughly 90 seconds. Then a couple minutes later, back on , still no rotation indicated. So I figure it was be for possible winds > 60 mph. Then blammo, rainin' sideways The siren is close, because I was ready to get ear plugs

donkpow Posted July 25, 2021 Share #4 Posted July 25, 2021 We get warnings fairly frequently and the sirens are tested weekly during the tornado "season".
Longjohn ★ Posted July 25, 2021 Share #5 Posted July 25, 2021 There was a siren in Sharpsville, Pa. that used to be used excessively. Somebody local evidently didn’t like it, the siren was all shot full of holes. It still worked.

That's aboot 60 miles north of me. The line came from the north, and I seen two areas of rotation when it in that area.

Longjohn ★ Posted July 25, 2021 Share #9 Posted July 25, 2021 Why do they even use sirens anymore? Everyone has smart phones and they not only give you the warning but give you the details.

Everyone looked at their phone at the same time, then everyone turned to look out the windows. It was like choreography. 1

And I have alerts turned off on mine, but I like weather so I'm aware of what's going on

But if I were on my bike, I would not hear an alert w/ it in my jersey pocket. If the bleep hits the fan, the siren would be helpful.
