Dirtyhip Posted July 26, 2021 Share #1 Posted July 26, 2021 So, can you save all the bits of fat, in a freezer bag, and then cook them down and skim for fat/oil for soap? My friend told me that you need this specific type of fat for the soap. She said you need a hard fat. I have been using cocout oil, olive il, shae and crisco style oil. You can use beef tallow. I thought that beef tallow is made from all kinds of fats, and not this one fat that she told me about. Shoot, let me text her and get what kind. she just told me that I needed. retro peritoneal fat
maddmaxx ★ Posted July 26, 2021 Share #2 Posted July 26, 2021 I make soap disappear. Then I go to the store and buy more. 1

donkpow Posted July 26, 2021 Share #6 Posted July 26, 2021 Is the quality of soap the issue?
Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted July 26, 2021 Share #7 Posted July 26, 2021 Yes, you can freeze fats for later use. I have some pork fat I’m saving for sausage makings. I want to get some leaf lard for pie dough making. It’s a pure pork fat from around the kidneys without the pork flavor.
Longjohn ★ Posted July 26, 2021 Share #8 Posted July 26, 2021 I thought this was going to be about good fats and bad fats in your diet, not your soap.

I am trying to make my own fat from the foods we have, instead of buying as much of it. Some of the recipes call for beef tallow.

Tell them you want the tallow too. Most people don’t want the tallow unless they are feeding birds.

The butcher does not render fat. they just cut, grind and wrap the cow for you.
Digital_photog ★ Posted July 26, 2021 Share #13 Posted July 26, 2021 Get some goats. My sister makes very nice soap from the fat in goats milk. They will also furnish you meat, milk to drink, cook and make cheese and mow your lawn for you. No need for a gas mower. 1

Longjohn ★ Posted July 26, 2021 Share #16 Posted July 26, 2021 Well ask for the suet next time you buy a cow and render it yourself. That would be more fun anyway. Give that new stove something to do.

Buy mass quantities of bacon. Eat the bacon, save the fat, and forget about all the rendering beef fat stuff. Besides, what could be better than washing with bacon scented soap?
