Sushi for dinner, and I tried octopus sashimi. It’s chewy, and the tentacles crack and pop like knuckles. I’m glad I tried it, but I won’t be eating it again.

I had abalone in Tokyo once and had a hell of time trying to eat it.  Some things just need to be cooked. :)

It is good for you to learn that seafood smells, tastes, and acts like death from a thousand fetid pus holes simultaneously.  Good for you.

I like seafood. I like tuna sashimi. We also had a spicy tuna roll and a green chili salmon roll.

like octopus lightly grilled

My stomach is having a hard time digesting it. I’m not sure I’d try it again, even cooked.

It is chewy if not done right.  Octopus needs to be cooked for 3 minutes or 3 hours.  Anything in between is tough and chewy.  I have some really tasty octo, not tough at all, and some really bad octo.

My one attempt at braising it was an epic failure

Whatever you say. Did anyone else help you eat all of that?

Dearie enjoyed eating it too, with me.

I consider it just another very slight chewy thing (if cooked right) that's more challenging to prepare than squid.  I suppose people here tend to like their squid deep fried.  Yes, everyone has to say calamari to cover up the real name.

I prefer squid very lightly sauteed..which means it's very fast to prepare. Yes, I've cooked squid at home, but not octopus.

Traditional Greek cooks do a great job grilling it fast.
