They should tell you first!

When I had oral surgery the oral surgeon administered the anesthesia. He went to inject it in my left arm in a vein and hit an artery instead. Blood squirted everywhere. He pulled the needle out and put direct pressure on the artery to stop the bleeding. After he bandaged me up and cleaned up all the blood he said “I guess we will have to use the other arm”. A real confidence builder when I know he is the one doing the surgery. He did a nice job.
I’m friends with a phlebotomist and I told him about it, he said it’s easy to do.

I wanted to get drunk for my root canal today. But they said no.

I didn't feel any pain, thanks to the novocaine, during my root canal.  The only problem was they had this rubber, poncho-like covering several inches in diameter that went around the tooth to keep junk out of my mouth and I couldn't talk because it held my tongue down.  So when the dentist said, from time to time, "You ok?" I replied, "Arg krcrk," then just held a thumb up.

The other problem was that, because of tooth swelling, the specialist couldn't put a permanent crown on right away so I had to schedule that with my dentist who didn't have an appointment available for 3 months.  So I ate carefully with this temporary crown in place for 3 months.  By that time, it took so much work to get the temporary crown off that the risk of more tooth swelling meant a 2nd temporary crown so I needed another appointment - 2 weeks later - to get the permanent crown.

We got a notice our dental insurance at work was going to change the coverage for wisdom tooth removal from 100% to 50% in a month.  My wisdom teeth weren't giving me problems, but the x-rays showed it was only a matter of time.

I got an appointment with my dentist and he took out all four wisdom teeth in one visit, with novacaine.  I think he used up a 55 gallon drum of that stuff.  He gave me a prescription of tylenol with codiene, which worked about as well as box of Skittles.

Just made an appointment to have a badly broken wisdom tooth removed.    I was given the option asleep or awake.  I chose awake, I hate anesthesia.

"OK, your appointment is with the new young dentist fresh out of school!"

Who in their right mind turns down a nap and no pain during the procedure in order to get 18 shots of kind of effective novacaine and uncomfortably trying to keep your mouth open while you are swallowing blood and gristle and tooth bits?

And another thing they should have told me!

I've had 2 pulled under novocaine at the dentist.  The third was so screwed up it required removal of a piece of my jaw, I was not given a choice for that one.  I explained that this one is pretty badly broken and the dentist might need to decide for me, but was still asked my choice.  So I might end up with the nap anyway.

Tell them not to molest you while you sleep.

I would not and could not do that, as of your criteria is 'in their right mind'.

I assisted my FiL chair side during the first year of mr. and I being married. I helped with many root canals, extractions, x-rays and fillings, but he would refer wisdom teeth to an oral surgeon. It’s kind of cool to see those procedures from the dentist side. I also had to clean up, sanitize and prepare all of the tools.

I'm drawn thousands of people and hundreds of blood donors.  Never once hit an artery, not sure it's that easy to do.

I can leave bad hematoma's too.  Most are fine, but they can hurt.
