Each verity has its own specific habitat. The most common verity east of the Mississippi is p. pyralis. They like open spaces. Best way to attract them is have a natural yard. Sod grass and chemical treatments ruin it for them. Only a few verities display over water and they are rare, but many if not most like water nearby.
