It’s a broken finger. Getting a splint, then will need to call a hand specialist for follow-up.

Man that sux, heal up quickly.  I played coed rec softball for several years and saw & suffered a number of injuries.  I Was the pitcher on our team and some Jack ass blasted a ball back at me.  I’m a decent fielder but the ball was on me before I could get a glove in it.

Softball is dangerous, my dad broke his wrist playing softball and it was never the same.

We are done with softball. mr. broke his foot a few years ago. Probably still going to play volleyball in January, though.

In the Chicago area we play softball with the large 16 inch diameter ball, and no gloves.   New 16 softballs are rather hard.  Old  16 softballs are actually soft.

One summer several years ago, our department had a company picnic, and we played softball, with a new ball.

I was fielding a ball hit in my direction.  Right before I caught the ball, it bounced weird, it jammed into my right thumb.  I did still catch the ball.  I do remember it hurt like hell, but I kept playing.

Months later I went to a bowling alley with WoBG, and my right thumb no longer fit into the hole on my ball.  Yeah... the joint on my right thumb is now larger than it was before.  It still is larger, and noticeably larger then the joint on my left thumb.

When I went from Maryland to Chicago to attend IIT in 1973, a bunch of guys organized a pickup softball game.  I brought my softball glove!  Or course, I played without it.

The big diameter softballs are hard to hit for distance!

So sorry to hear that.  I came close to injuries in softball couple times, once playing first where the bag wasn't tied down and I slipped sliding my foot back and the ball sailed just over my glove and right into my cheek.  I was seeing stars for a while.

In the ER for an x-ray on my hand. I landed on it, and there’s swelling and popping sounds.

OUCH!!! Sorry to hear!

Back at my old company - a small team of maybe a dozen or so folks - we joined a local co-ed softball league.  With so few of us, we needed everyone to play, so I convinced my Brit co-worker to give it a shot.  He was willing, and was relatively okay at wearing a glove and throwing a ball (by Brit standards), and we stuck him at third base.  Anyway, first game, a few innings in, we suck (no surprise), but someone hits a high infield pop up.  He misjudges it a little and has to backpedal to get under it.  Both hands up above him ready to make the catch, and he trips backward.  Both arms go back to break his fall, and both wrists take the full impact!  Not broken but swollen IMMENSELY by the next inning (he still drove home), and both wrists in soft casts for a long while.
