nothing worth keeping :(

Try the expensive neighborhoods.  Those folks throw all sorts of good stuff out, and now that you know the process (and are known as the Dumpster Diver Bike Guy) you can probably give @donkpow a run for his money. :D

I received in the mail my new registration and tabs for my vehicle. My birthday is next month. Anywho, I had the registration and sticker sitting on my kitchen table w/ some other pieces of mail & such. Over the weekend I decided to straighten up and throw some things oot. Couple days later I decide to place said sticker on my plate. Where is it:scratchhead: After looking around I and came to the conclusion that I must of accidentally thrown it oot:facepalm:I then started looking on the Secretary of State website to see how to obtain another one:wacko:, what a PITA. I was able to download a replacement registration, but ordering the sticker part of the site was jacked up and not working:angry: Then I realized it might still be in my dumpster💡 My condo has dumpsters. I just threw the trash oot in the morning before work so I was hoping that it was not emptied. When I got to the dumpster the trash was all there :) While standing on the side door, I sifted threw and found mine:hapydance:It was bright day light, so if any one saw me they were probably like . I took it back inside, opened it up and there was my registration w/ sticker :happyanim: I then put it on the plate. Done.

I thought this was something only I have done to recover something that shouldn't have been thrown out.  It seems that I am not alone in this club. Welcome Bikeman.

Lucky you!  Last year, I prepaid online for my new registrations and stickers.  I was having my mail forwarded to my apartment while my house was being rebuilt and then learned the USPS does NOT forward Maryland Motor Vehicle Admin. mail.  So, at the last minute, I was trying to speak to ANYONE at the MVA I could contact.

It took hours of online contact attempts, etc. etc. before I was able to get an appointment at the MVA office near me at the height of the pandemic and then, when an incompetent asshole of a worker tried to deny me access inside, a great guard who I'd talked to while in line saw my plight and escorted me past the bitch to the machine that generated the registration and stickers.  It cost me another $5 but I was still very relieved to have gotten out with my stuff.

A few months later, I ran into similar incompetency renewing my driver's license, but that's another story.

About 30 years ago..I was unemployed and living in "transitional housing"...an upscale homeless shelter for women . Any way..had a couple of women go dumpster diving by Walgreens...they brought back odds and ends including jars of salsa that were newly expired...then we had the woman who brought back a big junk of meat from the grocery store dumpster..unwrapped..and old..nope...and that ended the dumpster diving...best fi and d was the stuffed parrot that would repeat what you said....all he needed was batteries.

It's not so easy to put on the NY registration because you have to remove the other one from the window - whereas in California you just put the new sticker on top of the old ones on the license plate.   So I had my registration sitting out for a number of days before I had a chance to put it on.  I wanted to keep it somewhere out  where I would see it and remember to put in on, but somewhere safe enough that I wouldn't lose it.

We stopped with the stickers.  Anybody who cares can run your plate (even on the move) in seconds and find out if you have a registration or not.  The police are too busy to be the sticker police.  IMO it's a secondary charge now as in "piling on" when you do something else.

Stickers cost tax money to print and distribute.

Wouldn't the sticker cost be part of the registration cost? I don't see tax money paying for this.
