Former member Posted September 19, 2014 Share #1 Posted September 19, 2014 Who still likes the band, buys their albums, and goes to their concerts?
Randomguy Posted September 19, 2014 Share #2 Posted September 19, 2014 I don't know, I haven't bought music in years, really. More than a decade, anyway. I like a good many of their songs, though, but haven't listened to the new stuff at all.
Solution UglyBob Posted September 19, 2014 Solution Share #3 Posted September 19, 2014 I don't hate them, but they don't really excite me either. I got their latest album off iTunes just because it was free. It's ok, but nothing to write home about. I think they peaked with the "Joshua Tree" album...

Former member Posted September 19, 2014 Author Share #6 Posted September 19, 2014 They jumped the shark with their 1st movie(Under a Blood Red Sky). They used to be a good band, but then they started using their concerts as a chance to bloviate about some cause they want you to support.

TrentonMakes Posted September 19, 2014 Share #8 Posted September 19, 2014 I too think that Joshua Tree remains (by far) their high point. I have Achtung Baby but nothing more recent until the new one, which is OK but I doubt I'd have paid money for it. How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb (featuring the single "Vertigo") was also pretty good.
jsharr ★ Posted September 19, 2014 Share #9 Posted September 19, 2014 They did do that one song about freeing the lesbian vegan puppies of Sudan that I thought had a nice beat to it recently.

After a time, it is becomes tedious to find a new cause celebre annually. The best bands have always been the ones that would reinvent themselves and experiment with new sounds and new ideas. U2 fit this category around the time of The Joshua Tree and then Rattle and Hum. I'm not so sure about today, but then my own musical tastes have taken me away from that band. Bands and performers trying to hold on to one sound or one theme will become irrelevant and stale.
Zephyr Posted September 19, 2014 Share #17 Posted September 19, 2014 I saw them live about three or four years ago, the only concert I have gone to in the last ten years. And it was a great show, particularly because when they were not playing their new stuff, they played almost the entire "Joshua Tree" album!
