Razors Edge ★ Posted October 1, 2021 Share #1 Posted October 1, 2021 I would like to see more parity in distances of Elite Women vs Elite Men in cycling. It really would have been cool to see the women ride at least another 75km if not the full (and same) course the men rode. Just seems a shame. I've heard the women racers say they like the distances they race, but really, the UCI should slowly increase them until they are at or very near the men's distances. ChrisL Posted October 1, 2021 Share #3 Posted October 1, 2021 Women gravel & Endurance MTB racers are doing the same distances as men so there is an argument to be made the UCI should keep race distances the same. That and prize money.
shootingstar Posted October 1, 2021 Share #4 Posted October 1, 2021 2 hours ago, Longjohn said: But men are faster. Sure, but the women could have their own race for same distance as men's. I actually think for women they develop endurance for distance when they are abit older than ie. 17-20 yr. old.
Square Wheels Posted October 2, 2021 Share #5 Posted October 2, 2021 I don't remember much about the comments, but there was a compelling talk during the first Le Tour I watched where they said it would not be safe for women to ride the same distances as the men. It started out poorly, but the more information they gave, the more I believed them. I wish I remember what they cited as the science behind it, but I fell for it.
