So, Chevy's new flip flop tailgate with about six hinges

My brother always locks his tailgate on his Ford F-150. I asked him why he does that and he says tailgates are a hot item to steal. Who knew? I don’t think any of the pickups I’ve had over the years ever had a lock on them but nobody would want to steal mine anyway. I used my trucks for hauling stuff and the tailgate looked like I did.

LOL. I remember my first new truck in the '80s had no radio, no ac, no passenger side mirror, no back bumper and no power steering. The radial tires were an option.

Sounds like my Ford Escort Pony commuter car.  0 frills. I believe there was cardboard behind the fabric interior panels.

Let the tailgate wars begin! Chevy has the flip flop multi level tailgate, Ram, the two way 60/40 split sideways (not impacted by hitch/trailer levelers) and traditional, plus the Ram Boxes on the sides, and Ford maintains the traditional flop tailgate with remote open and close with soft open/close and spec'd  as a workbench with power outlets and the hybrid model getting a 7.2kw power generator that will support an 240v/4000w  welder...or power your home during a power outage.

I bought a new truck in the late 80’s & my tailgate got stolen within a year of owning it. Most lock these days but they did get stolen often & we’re easy to pull off.

Does anyone make a plain vanilla truck anymore without all the girlyman options?

The Ford F-150, Toyota Tacoma & Chevy Colorado comes in a very basic no frills work truck.

I wanted my Dakota to pull my race trailer so I made sure it had reasonable creature comforts like AC and a decent stereo. The V6 has plenty of grunt and it is a pleasure to drive with the manual transmission. The bed and tailgate got battle scars from Day1. One of my race buddies at the time complimented me on using my pickup for its intended purpose. I’m always amused at all the big, burly, “manly man” trucks that have never even had a 2x4 in the bed.

Last week I put a 2x4 in the back of my Mini as I repaired some dry rot on the soffit. Of course, they had to rip it 3' (size I needed) 1' to fit it in the back. That incident is what has me looking at a Maverick (vs the Escape) as it will actually hold a 4x8 sheet of plywood. A little unique, as not flat in the bed like other trucks but on top of wheel wells, the the tailgate has a secondary post for the wire supports to keep it half up and a flat platform for the plywood.

My truck from 1988 exactly.  I think we paid for a rear bumper, I added my own radio, but not having AC was probably the only downside of such a basic truck. Otherwise, it was awesome (and cheap)! No lock on the tailgate, but it never got stolen.

Similar setup for 4x8 sheets in the Dakota.
Did you recently buy a sofa?

No, but the day is still young. Heading to Costco in a few hours for a rotisserie chicken. Never know what I will come home with though.
