Ralphie ★ Posted October 10, 2021 Share #1 Posted October 10, 2021 Apparently has a lot of new features. It seems odd that I have updates set to auto yet when I looked I am still at 14.8 but 15 is available. I guess that means it is optional, so is only feature additions, no bug fixes. So have you apple users updated to it yet? And if so, how is it?

I figure they will actually push it or at least start putting an annoying "red 1" on the Settings icon when they really want me to install it. I may do it if I feel particularly bored, but in no rush.
Bikeguy Posted October 10, 2021 Share #13 Posted October 10, 2021 WoBG's iPhone XR is using 15.0.1 now. I have no idea what's new on her phone, I just keep it up to date. I do remember a few days ago WoBG tried to look at her calendar, and there was nothing to see. It took a bit, but I found I needed to select at least 1 of the 2 email accounts she has. How they got unselected is a mystery. Maybe, the last update did that... My Galaxy S7 is stuck at 8.0.0 It got it's last update on 4/6/20, and that's probably the last update it will get. Longjohn ★ Posted November 11, 2021 Share #23 Posted November 11, 2021 iPadOS 15 makes multitasking easier to discover, easier to use, and more powerful. Widgets can now be placed among apps on your Home Screen and App Library makes it possible to get to all of your apps right from the dock. Quick Note gives you a fast and easy way to take notes over any app or screen. New translation features and the Translate app for iPad help you better understand the world around you. FaceTime calls sound and feel more natural with Audio and video enhancements, including spatial audio and Portrait mode. Focus helps you reduce distractions by filtering out notifications based on what you are currently doing. I guess with the Galaxy S7 you don't have to worry about OS updates or security updates, so that's keeps things consistent For iPhones, the biggest obvious difference from 14x to 15x seems to be the weather app but also a bunch of notification stuff, and, as Maxx mentions, stuff more centered around newer phone functions. I'm not too worried, I use Norton to protect the phone against the real nasty stuff. One day... I many need to update the phone, when the apps refuse to update because the OS is so old. I guess I'll find out when that happens...

MickinMD ★ Posted November 11, 2021 Share #34 Posted November 11, 2021 Watch out for compatibility issues in any new OS version with hardware designed for the previous version. My Windows laptop keeps asking me, from time to time, if I want to upgrade for free from Windows 10 to 11. There's a warning some applications may be affected. I declined. I remember getting a pre-release, beta version of Windows 98 (then called "Memphis") from a student's father, a big improvement over full-of-bugs Windows 95. But sometimes I had to cold-boot my laptop three or four times before Windows would launch and a few programs would only run in a basic mode or not at all. I don't trust the new version today to be any better of a match with my laptop. Windows 10 works fine enough for me.
