12string Posted October 18, 2021 Share #3 Posted October 18, 2021 I thought this was going to be about boilers. Or sewage systems. Or houses smelling awful when the heat gets turned on
Road Runner Posted October 18, 2021 Share #4 Posted October 18, 2021 I think he is referring to his hot water heater. Mine is very accessible. I've personally changed it twice.

So you have a hot water heating system that also acts as your hot water heater?

Oil fired hot water system fed the baseboard radiators and was my hot water heater. Now I have a single HVAC unit for AC and heating and a separate electric hot water heater.

Kirby Posted October 18, 2021 Share #13 Posted October 18, 2021 My hot water heater is in a closet in the back and to the side of the closet in the spare room. It requires moving a ton of stuff and taking down the closet shelves, so no, not easy to access.

The coal bricks are freighted down from Asheville on the Swamp Rabbit. Carl used to deliver them to me in a wheelbarrow but he has passed.

My father had to bring coal up from the basement in buckets and constantly feed the heater during cold weather. The back bedrooms got very cold at night.
AirwickWithCheese Posted October 18, 2021 Author Share #17 Posted October 18, 2021 Nice, you had a basement. Coal bricks are more expensive than shell coal but 90% better for the environment.
