Parsnip Totin Jack ★ Posted November 23, 2021 Share #2 Posted November 23, 2021 Mashed potatoes and gravy sweet potato casserole, yes the one with marshmallows on top. It is Wo7’s favorites. green beans is the straight up style asparagus in the same way. a small amount of stuffing similar to Jambalaya. I will make a dirty rice with trinity, andouille sausage, and shrimp. Combine with sourdough croutons, butter and shrimp stock. Maybe some mushrooms too. Cloverleaf rolls and three small pies, apple, pumpkin, and pecan.

ChrisL Posted November 23, 2021 Share #4 Posted November 23, 2021 On Thursday I’m providing the Turkey, no sides. On my sibling’s Friday dinner I’m doing butternut squash, roasted beats & green beans (not the casserole).
maddmaxx ★ Posted November 23, 2021 Share #5 Posted November 23, 2021 The outlaws don't eat vegetables. I will be serving squash casserole, asparagus and green peas along with the mashed potatoes. All but the latter are for domestic consumption. There will of course be cranberries, boiled and cooked already and cornbread stuffing with various bits added.

I've never heard of that type of recipe. Not in my world. I have no idea since it won't be thxgiving for us up here. Might be one of the following: asparagus, bok choy or butternut squash. Latter I will stir fry...carmelizes naturally in taste.
BR46 Posted November 23, 2021 Share #11 Posted November 23, 2021 No family gathering for us this year Wo46 and I will have a light lunch here and maybe wonder down to the corner bar late afternoon for the misfits Thanksgiving dinner. 1
Page Turner Posted November 23, 2021 Share #12 Posted November 23, 2021 ...I'm baking a winter squash right now, hoping to warm up the house a little. It's an orange Kabocha...looks like a small pumpkin. It will probably end up as pie, but if I go with apple pie, it might end up as a side with the turkey, with pre-boiled chestnuts chopped into it. Whatever happened to Thanksgiving holiday Jello molds ? They went from ubiquitous to endangered in the space of a generation or two.

I remember the jello molds at my wife’s grand parents. We may have actually ended up with the molds as my wife inherited a lot of her grandmothers stuff. Probably in the garage storage. My MIL makes a jello, fruit & cool whip thing as a dessert. My wife loves it but I could never eat it. My SIL’s mom has been making that jello dessert for my wife as she grew up with it too. Tasty and no carbs. Mostly, I make my own mushroom soup with three kinds of mushrooms and a veloute sauce. The finished casserole is amazing. I hope #2 son isn’t disappointed that his will taste different from years past.

Food industry marketing gave us many “traditional” dishes from test kitchen recipes published in magazines, printed on the packaging, featured in tv ads. Pumpkin pie from Carnation Evaporated Milk, Jello salads and aspics, marshmallows on sweet potatoes, cranberry jelly in the shape of the can, which was part of its allure on the table. And this Thanksgiving tradition in mr’s home…football and a double batch.
