MickinMD ★ Posted December 30, 2021 Share #1 Posted December 30, 2021 What I felt this morning was an explosion at a coal dust facility a mile from me, where coal is offloaded from barges. There are laws in my county about keeping coal wet - I used to be on our county's Landfill Laws Commission and that included huge coal piles - but the CSX facility is in Baltimore City, not the county. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. 1
sheep_herder ★ Posted December 30, 2021 Share #2 Posted December 30, 2021 They might be governed by city laws, but I would assume the city is in the county. That is the way it works in most places.
Ralphie ★ Posted December 30, 2021 Share #3 Posted December 30, 2021 Hmm, seems like good economics to keep the water spray system working!

Baltimore City is also less up-to-date with safety regulations and does less inspections than the surrounding counties. If my house had been in Baltimore City, the county building codes that my contractor said to thank for a lot of the extras in my rebuilt house would not exist!

I've seen the coal sprayed while it's being unloaded from a freighter.
