Popular Post dinneR ★ Posted January 7, 2022 Popular Post Share #1 Posted January 7, 2022 I skied today. The weather was a crazy. We have a multi-day storm cycle dumping a lot of snow, but it's too warm. There was a lot of powder up high and wet, sticky snow down low. It was very windy. Visibility at the top was limited. It was so warm, I was hot within the first 1/2 mile, taking of my hat and gloves. A clear day one year ago vs today. 4 2
dinneR ★ Posted January 7, 2022 Author Share #2 Posted January 7, 2022 I tucked into this tree for the transition. Most people were transitioning lower out of the wind. Then the powder. Jackson Hole shut down the tram and lifts above 9k' because of the wind. Avalanche danger was high. The pass was closed to driving and skiing. I could hear bombing all day.

TrentonMakes Posted January 7, 2022 Share #5 Posted January 7, 2022 That looks awesome. I've only had a couple ski days on fresh powder. The first time I was able to ski on powder I was amazed at how quiet it was. When most of your skiing is done in the Poconos, most of your skiing involves a bit of ice.

MoseySusan Posted January 7, 2022 Share #7 Posted January 7, 2022 When would you expect conditions to improve? NM mountains don’t have that kind of snow, yet. We’re expecting some next week. Maybe. The ski areas are making snow.

dinneR ★ Posted January 7, 2022 Author Share #9 Posted January 7, 2022 Two of my friends are going up before work to get some turns in. They wanted me to go, but I have to work earlier than they would finish. I can see people on the mountain already.

Snow melted and froze overnight. It's ugly.

This is the downside of a big powder day. Long lines. Luckily, I was a the town hill, where there are no lines and I skinned up, so no lift needed.
Prophet Zacharia Posted January 7, 2022 Share #14 Posted January 7, 2022 I once skied in a t-shirt in Courmayeur, Italy. Beautiful day. Another great day was in Telluride following a 24” dump, crystal blue skies and warm temps followed the storm. I think we got down to just a shell jacket.

Do they set explosives or shoot them with recoilless rifles? I wouldn’t want to set demo charges but would like to shoot the hillsides from afar. On the pass they have a cannon like contraption

I am your opposite, I learned, such as it is, in western Ny. Out here I always skied at bear mountain, which was doe mountain back then, in Macungie, half as far as the Poconos.
