dinneR ★ Posted January 14, 2022 Share #3 Posted January 14, 2022 Read Ghengis Khan by Jack Weatherford. Jack pronounced it Jengis Khan not a hard G. The Mongol army led by Genghis Khan subjugated more lands and people in twenty-?ve years than the Romans did in four hundred. In nearly every country the Mongols conquered, they brought an unprecedented rise in cultural communication, expanded trade, and a blossoming of civilization. Vastly more progressive than his European or Asian counterparts, Genghis Khan abolished torture, granted universal religious freedom, and smashed feudal systems of aristocratic privilege. From the story of his rise through the tribal culture to the explosion of civilization that the Mongol Empire unleashed, this brilliant work of revisionist history is nothing less than the epic story of how the modern world was made. 2

shootingstar Posted January 14, 2022 Share #11 Posted January 14, 2022 Well, for the conquered nations by Genghis Khan's army, they would see it totally different. Successful armies aren't nice. They are designed to break things rapidly and efficiently so that the enemy quits as quickly as possible. Prolonged "nice" wars are costly in terms of human life. Just look at the last 20 years of American history to see how to do it wrong. 1

He's an academic so he does a ton of research, but he writes for the lay person. That said, I read this book in 2004 so my recollection is fuzzy.
