UglyBob Posted October 14, 2014 Share #7 Posted October 14, 2014 What are the fan blades for? Do they move the plane forward or are they more for show? They compress the air for better combustion. Pulse jets and ram jets do not use compressors.

Zephyr Posted October 14, 2014 Share #12 Posted October 14, 2014 One is on a rocket, the other is on a jet. Duh....... I am assuming (because I have no idea) the rocket engine does not take air from outside as it is designed for space. Either that or magic. UglyBob Posted October 14, 2014 Share #13 Posted October 14, 2014 Then how is a jet engine different from a rocket engine? Rocket engines do not require an external air source. The are self contained.

UglyBob Posted October 14, 2014 Share #16 Posted October 14, 2014 I am planning to build one. Right now I am in the preliminary stages of building my knowledge base. Start with a pulse jet. I've built one before. Very basic and a good place to start.

Solution JerrySTL ★ Posted October 14, 2014 Solution Share #23 Posted October 14, 2014 I'm the expert here. I was an aircraft mechanic for about 24 years. Plus my last name is "Whittle" but I don't think that I'm related to Sir Frank. A jet engine works like a good woman: Sucks, squeezes, blows, and goes.
