That’s actually something I’ve thought deeply about over the years. I wear these, as symbols of my faith and my heritage: A Roman crucifixion was one of the worst ways in history to be executed. A cross then should promote the same images of horror as the wheel, the noose, boiling oil, etc... and actually, it does. But also, by the One I believe in, it became transmuted, in essence, into a symbol of hope, propitiation, sacrifice and love. I never forget the atrocity. No, the nails, the whip, the cross, the thorns; they are stark reminders of the horror. But the life freely given is far more powerful than the instrument of death. Mercy from judgement, life from death. Beauty for ashes. I cannot speak to St Valentine. But I can say, that in my death I’d prefer to be remembered for something beautiful. 2

Kirby Posted February 14, 2022 Share #8 Posted February 14, 2022 It doesn't rhyme. It's not a real poem if it doesn't rhyme. 1 1

Roses are red Violets are blue I was beaten with clubs How about you? I was beheaded and buried I think that they hurried It was under cover of darkness Not sure why they worried. Dug up by my posse Made into a martyr You now celebrate me With chocolate you bought her. 2
