2Far ★ Posted February 15, 2022 Share #1 Posted February 15, 2022 We ROFed our last payroll admin b/c she was really struggling with the basics of the job. Current payroll admin was already here doing AP & some other accounting gymnastics (our parent is publicly owned, so there's a lot of T crossing & I dotting). If what I overheard is correct, we currently pay the admin $12/hr. I.Am.Horrified! FWIW, our payroll is a giant PITA. All but staff get different hours each week. Some sites have different pay rates, some have different per diem rates, there's travel pay between sites, some guys work a partial week at one site & the rest of the week at a different site.
jsharr ★ Posted February 15, 2022 Share #2 Posted February 15, 2022 I could not get anyone to work for that price here. About half of what it takes to hire and retain someone and turnover was still high at that rate.
maddmaxx ★ Posted February 15, 2022 Share #3 Posted February 15, 2022 It would seem that you can make more at minimum wage cleaning up after the burger flippers in many places.
dinneR ★ Posted February 15, 2022 Share #4 Posted February 15, 2022 $12/hour is insulting. A friend of mine just hired an Admin Assistant. I think he said they are paying $60k/year.

dinneR ★ Posted February 15, 2022 Share #9 Posted February 15, 2022 Locally, Whole Foods pays $20/hour, Target is starting people at $24/hour, REI is paying well too. $12/hour is pitiful.

Dirtyhip Posted February 15, 2022 Share #11 Posted February 15, 2022 Speaking of payroll, we have some big problems on our plate. One of the big workplace time card systems got hacked. They tried to keep payroll running by paying us our normal, but then we were overpaid. We might have to give money back or lose our pay for about a month. Luckily, we can rely on our emergency fund to get us through. It is a mess.

I wonder if they will charge you interest for the "loan"?
Dirtyhip Posted February 15, 2022 Share #13 Posted February 15, 2022 Very glad I am organized and a planner. I feel for those that possibly are single income families. Eeeks it appears they didn’t take out 401k from the check, but deposited it anyway. They originally said they would not be taking out 401k. Oof. This will be fun to rectify. Kzoo Posted February 15, 2022 Share #14 Posted February 15, 2022 And that's the thing about this great land of ours... If you don't like your pay, go interview for another job. This is the year of resignation, remember?

Square Wheels Posted February 15, 2022 Share #18 Posted February 15, 2022 I had an assistant, the title was operations coordinator. They made in the mid 70s. I would not get out of bed for $12 / hour.

Thaddeus Kosciuszko Posted February 15, 2022 Share #28 Posted February 15, 2022 Let's see if I got this right... Your company payroll is tedious and difficult to do. One payroll person was let go, and management took that person's duties and dumped them on another person who already had a full time job doing tedious and difficult accounting work. Management pays that person $12/hr, and did not give that person a raise (obviously!) when they dumped the extra work in their lap. And it's 'rumor' that the person is interviewing? I'm quite surprised the person hasn't long ago told management:
