From Battlefield Ukraine by Tom Clancy NATO forces, stationed in Europe alone, are so much more powerful than Russia that Russia won't risk invading a NATO country. That's why it was desperate to invade Ukraine before it joined - it and Georgia had both recently said they want to join. The old Soviet Union was much more powerful in tanks and other heavy weapons while NATO had the edge in aircraft. NATO's strategy back then was to bottle up an invading army in the lowlands of the Fulda Gap in Germany. Now NATO has 5100 battle tanks deployed compared to Russias 2800, including superior Abrams tanks, while Russia has a small artillery edge and an edge in armored personnel carriers. NATO would easily dominate the air with 2539 tactical aircraft with 27.8% being post-cold war designs vs 1434 for Russia with 28.6% post-cold war designs. The USA has a total of 13,247 military aircraft of all types vs 4,173 for Russia. We've seen how slow and plodding Russia's logistics are - their troops in Ukraine are currently short on food and fuel. The Russians wouldn't get through the Pripet Marshes of Poland before their vehicles were turned in wrecks like Saddam's vehicles on the roads to Iraq in Operation Desert Storm. Page Turner Posted March 2, 2022 Share #6 Posted March 2, 2022 ...I used to wear the enamel badge on the lower right in Naples, NATO Allied Forces South. Good pizza prevents a lot of invasions.
maddmaxx ★ Posted March 2, 2022 Author Share #7 Posted March 2, 2022 I remember a war where children carrying a bag of rice and a couple of explosive charges were a force to be reckoned with. As the Russians are finding out in Ukraine, equipment specifications don't mean as much as many presume. The size of the stick matters less than how it's used.
