I'm still recovering....

I didn't get a surprise party.

But the year I announced I was retiring in a school with 142 teachers, as I walked down the hallways, teacher's would look out at me through their classroom doorways and silently shake 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 fingers at me while teaching their classes.

That was how many years they had left before retiring.  Within 6 years of my retiring, there were only 11 teachers I knew still at the school.  Increasing our student loads from 120 to 170 students and forcing the awful "No Child Left Behind" (No Child Gets Ahead) on us, the quality of education at a lot of schools nationwide took a big dive - as SAT scores showed.

I thought the “no child left behind” was just for school bus drivers?
