Remember when this was so far in the future, it seemed a fantasy

When I was 20-25, a 64 year old person was very old and most likely feeble to some extent.

But as you age, 64 gets younger and younger.  :)

Honest, how I feel health-wise, doesn't feel different than 5 yrs. ago...which is still very good. Even my father at 65 was quite good, health-wise. He was diagnosed cancer around 78 yrs.

My reminder in terms of time trajectory, is dearie's death and he I spent nearly 3 decades our life together. So the loss of a partner, forces one to reflect on self-orientation and how the future looks ahead. Of course, it doesn't relate at all to my physical health, unless one's mental health affect physical.

You are lucky.  Many people aren't so fortunate.  And it's not necessarily due to poor life style choices.  Sometimes, life just jumps up and bites us in the ass for no apparent reason.

When that album came out and I was a young teen, I thought 64 meant being unable to do much physically at all.

If anyone told me I'd go on a bike ride or walk a dog for a few miles when I was 71, I'd have figured it was b.s.

Also, at that time, I never expected to travel as much as I have.  My family was getting postcards from my aunt Mary, who was in the WACS and stationed in Germany.  Her Colonel's wife took her with her on great trips to Egypt, the Holy Land, etc.  I thought doing such things was way beyond what I would ever do.

Just before I went to Egypt, she sent me a picture with her on a camel with a Pyramid in the background.  I sent her a picture of me on a camel with the Sphinx and a Pyramid in the background.  In my teens I wouldn't have believed that was possible, either.

Honest, as an older teen, I didn't even think about travelling  beyond North America. It just seemed so far fetched and costly at that time in life.

I didn't even dream of working and living outside of my birth province, Ontario. I never thought about having friends to even talk about travelling, etc. I'm in the lst generation of my family to travel outside a home country, just for leisure.

Not to go overseas to work, like my great-grandfathers, each spent several years across North America working in laundries and restaurants and then returning to China where they eventually died. The federal law in both, CAnada and U.S., was highly restricted to prevent them from bringing wives/children over because of the anti-Asian sentiment in late 1800's to early 1900's. My grandparents never left China. My parents could not afford and didn't want to travel overseas, even if we gave them money. They were content in their house. I'm not kiddin'.

For me, that was 2 years ago.

The song was released in 1967 that doesn't seem like that could be possible.  I can't be that old...  :scratchhead:   I don't feel that old.

There were some other interesting things happing back in 67.   In the fall of 67 I started 7th grade.  And then there was this too.  https://www.thepeoplehistory.com/1967.html

Good to think of 67 connections. I'll have to ponder over this.. for 1964...which I believe there were major ones in civil  rights movement...and I would have started kindergarten at 5 yrs...lost because I didn't know English. So my whole was going to take a different direction by opening up.

In 67 I was still stationed in Key West FL and the navy's fleet sonar school.  After nearly 2 years in the service I had just failed a physical prior to being sent to Purdue University at the navy's expense to eventually become an officer.  It turned out that the navy considered me 4F and was contemplating giving me a medical discharge as I never should have been allowed to enlist. (by their standards at the time my eyes were unsuitable for military service but my claim was that my vision with glasses was better than most and did not constitute any disability to do much of anything at all) It required a decision on discharge or continued service because of a shortage of manpower during the war and the considerable training time the service had expended on me.  For a few months I served as a temporary instructor at the school before the final decision.  In the end, they decided that I could remain in the service.  Purdue was no longer an option (my eyes were not good enough to be either an officer or a gentleman) as was my continuing to Sub school and my service aboard any combat ship.  I ended up being assigned to an east coast submarine command as a technical specialist where I eventually ended up working for various people who designed equipment and weapons for the navy.  My service record began to accumulate <redacted> comments.  For much of that time it almost seemed like I wasn't in the Navy after all.

67 was a great year.  I almost got married.  Another story.
