meet someone same name

sharing same first  and last  name?  I haven't but it might be a surreal experience. There is even a black woman who married a Chinese guy also. It would be a semi-international huddle... meaning one can't find my same namesake in every country, but multiples in various clusters in certain countries.  Probably a number of them are very bright...judging from their job titles which require specialist formal training. I have no clue about China because the person may speak/read/write only in Chinese.  So won't show up in English-language websites/search engines.

A sister who is a pharmacist was suddenly introduced to another pharmacist with same first and last name.  Neither of them knew in advance of  another person with same name.  It  was  freaky thing for both of them. It just stunned them.

I’m the only one in the world with my full name. First and last, there are maybe a half dozen world wide.

I have a very popular  Chinese last name. I think it ranks in top 10 in Chinese last names..worldwide.  There are  ancient Chinese origin mythologies, where ancestors with my last name(and variant depending on dialect) were part of the misty near start with bunch of other name elite warriors/whatever.

My middle name is Chinese but not totally unusual and has centuries old use.....translates as "Orchid". My legal name includes the Chinese middle name as was given to me legally.  The popular flower equivalent for the West,  would be Rose or Lily. Not Daisy..that's too common as a metaphorical flower comparison.

My last name is fairly unique and those who share my name in the United States are descendants of two other namesakes who immigrated from Holland.  We have a very robust genealogy site and can easily track lineage.

I have yet to meet anyone with my exact name, there may not be one…

who voluntarily identified their ethnicity/nationality with my last name. Of course, there are oodles who  haven't registered on website (and alot of them would be Chinese-speaking who don't know any English).  Last name can be found in Malayasia and probably some in Indonesia if they had a Chinese relative in family tree..where there are more Asian Muslims.

It is 4,700 yrs. old and has last name variations in several Chinese dialects which is why one sees English variants, depend on the person's family dialect long ago.    In the 1990 edition of Guinness Book of Records, it was listed as the world's most common surname, with over 100 million people worldwide with this surname. It was also ranked third in the People's Republic of China by the Chinese Academy of Sciences in early 2006. . The use of this surname dates back to about 4,700 years ago.

My sister shook hands with other woman who shared same name. This was how immediate, face to face the  encounter was.

A little ancient story based on the stars of the night. I've hidden my Mandarin version of my last name at start. The reference to Chinese ideogram....my last name does really does look like bunch of stylized bows, ie. bow and arrow. :flirtyeyess:

So when some racist asshole mocks my last name, maybe I should shoot back, as shootingstar:  "Sucks to you. My bow and arrow to you. Find not hate, but love".

The origin of the surname xxxx is legendary. The fifth son of , the legendary supreme ancestor of all Han Chinese, was Qīng Yáng Shì . Qīng Yáng Shì's son Huī was inspired by the Chinese Arc Constellation -- Tiān Gōng Xīng in the sky and invented the bow. Later Hui was assigned as Gōng Zhèng , the minister in charge of observing the Arc Constellation and making bows. Then Hui and his descendants were bestowed the surname Zhang, which, if broken into its constituent radicals, would mean "the master of bows" in Chinese. It is believed that the ancestors of Zhangs were archers and the bow as a totem of their tribe.

In this little town there are two guys that I know with the same first, middle and last name born in the same year. They were even roommates for a few years.

They are not related and didn't even know each other until the 3 grade when they were both in the same class together.

I once managed two Willie Nelsons and neither had a middle name.  I had memorized their employee numbers as that was the only way I could tell them apart on payroll & such.

When I was in college, my brother called me one day because he’d read an article in his local newspaper that a lost hiker with my name was found unharmed after a few days. He was concerned that I was ok. But it wasn’t me. I’ve not met her, but she’s out there somewhere.

D1 did a phone interview for her current job with someone with the same name, but a different spelling of the first name.  Once she was started working there, being only 4'11" tall, she was quickly tagged with "Little Megan" to differentiate her from "Meghan".  Fortunately of the 28 workers, 27 are female which probably resulted in them not going with the obvious "Little Megan" and "Big Meghan"

My thinking some of the gals that share my name, are probably interesting people for a coffee. That's all.

1 of my nephews, his GF who is biracial, half-Chinese. Her lst name is Mulan...yes there was a Disney movie character. But the woman warrior is based on real history. She is used often a strong yet loyal feminist and honorable figure passed through the centuries in now folklore.

She's a software engineer.

And not the same name, but I still remember in my small Junior High School, we had a Michael Black, Michael Brown, Michael Gray, Michael Green, Michael White and Michael Raw Umber(okay, I made the last one up)

When I was at Sony Pictures the Security Dept had 5 Chris’, three working day watch.  My radio call sign was Mike - One being the lead management representative. The team started calling me Mike One and then shortened it to Mike and it stuck for the 3 years I was there.  After a while newer people just thought my name was Mike!

One day at work I got some email, from one of the nuclear plants that was part of our same corporation at the time.   I was wondering why???   I worked for the distribution part (poles & wires, etc...)  of the corporation .  The 2 different parts of the corporation seldom had any reason to work together.  We were separate enough to be 2 separate subsidiaries, but we shared the same IT dept.

Then I figured out the email was for a person with the same first and last name as me.  We did have different middle initials.

I kept getting some of his email from time to time.   And worse, some of the email that should have been sent to me, people would click on his name when addressing the emails.

I had IT remove the middle initial from my name in the email address directory.  That made me alphabetically first.  That actually helped me get my emails.  I guess people stop reading when the find a name, and just click on it.  Then again I started getting more of my clone's email.

The BEST part...    One day, I got a call.  This woman starts telling me I need to come home and visit her more.  I don't visit enough, etc..   I asked;  "Who is this?"   She replies; "It's your mother."  I was like...      Then I 'figured it out'....  I said...   "My mother's name is Emily.  What's your name?"  (thank God she had a different first name from my mother)   We had a short discussion.   Then I called my clone and told him to call his mother.

In less than a year... they guy was deleted from the email directory.  I have no idea what happened to that guy.  My email was back delivery to normal again.

I’m friends on Facebook with someone with my first and last name. He said he found seven of us. Most of us accepted his friend request but after some fun posting comments everyone else dropped out except the two of us. I still confuses his friends when I post on his news feed.

My first and last name is about as common as John Smith.  I have met several, and received phone calls for and mail for others. The first summer here in Michigan I was on a softball team with someone with the same name.  I played 2b and he played right center right behind me.  We also batted on order in the lineup.  I also go to church with someone with the same name.  Several years ago I had an office right across the hall from someone with the same name.

For me it’s pretty common.

I never met a guy with the same name as me, but met the father of one.

A man with the same last name as me, Frank Cashen, was general manager of the Baltimore Orioles and later GM of the NY Mets.

I met him: he was born in Tipperary, Ireland, where my great-grandfather was born, so we agreed we were distant relatives.  He told me he had a son with my name.

I never met that son, Michael.  But every so often, I'd get a phone call meant for him.  That ended in my 40's.  Maybe he moved.

With my full name, I am it.  With my first and last, there was also my dad (now passed) and coincidentally, at least one other dude who also lived in the same town I do now.  25+ yrs ago, when I went to set up my gas company account, they told me I had a past due amount.  I was like WTF??? Turned out it was another "me" who was 30yrs older.  It was actually a quick fix for them, but it revealed there was a deadbeat with my name out there :D  Other than that, there are about 100-200 folks with my last name out there (that you would find through internet and genealogy search sites), because our spelling is some sort of phonetic nuttiness from our original naming in the Old World. I guess our church/city bureaucrats had no idea how to spell our surname for immigration paperwork :scratchhead:

When I lived in the KW region, I was sometimes mistaken for a guy of the same name that had played for the Kitchener Rangers. He is a few years older than I.

He only played one season I think, 68/69. He is in this photo. Doesn't look even a little bit like me.

With  the Internet, I've seen photos of some who share my namesake. Not  sure how  many of them like cycling lots. I've seen some names that are the same as several of my sisters'.

I’ve met one, but I’m sure there are more out there. He’s a Canadian living in the US with a US wife and daughter. He worked at the same credit union as me in Accounting. I worked Internal Audit. He and I both shared the fact that our first names are John but we are known as Jack. He changed his name to go by John to avoid confusion. I liked to remind him that he is an imposter as I was here first. I met his daughter Mary one day when I was working the bike shop. Yes, he’s a cyclist too. Mary was speechless that someone has the same name as her dad. One day, I received a voicemail on my cellphone that was intended for his wife. An aunt in New Jersey had passed away and someone was trying to reach his wife. How they got my number, I don’t know. But I got his number and forwarded the message.

In our large org, it is amazing how often I type in a name into email and it auto-fills with several "Steve Jones" options - Steve.jones, Steven.jones. Steve.m.jones, Steve.mark.jones, etc..  That's just within an org, not all folks in the US, so it has to be huge.

My company once did a feature on the website about "triplets" - three people at the company with the same name.  My coworker had someone else at the company with his name for a number of years and their emails were always getting messed up.

My surname is quite uncommon in the US.  But rather popular in Holland (also).  We have only found one or two people in the US with the same surname that aren't related.  However, there was an unofficial name change a few generations ago, leading to my family not being the same blood lineage as anyone else with this surname, so, no, Chris is NOT my long lost cousin.

There is a (retired now) professional soccer player in the Netherlands with my same name.  I have never met him, though I do get an occasional inquiry on social media.  He wasn't that big a star, so I don't get much money for the autographs.

I found out that happens because they often recycle names in the witness protection program.

I did meet a dude with your same name, up at West Point.  He wouldn't talk to us, though, just stood there really still.  Cold dude!
