Kirby Posted March 9, 2022 Share #5 Posted March 9, 2022 I always feel if my manager needs me to write what I've done during the year, they probably aren't doing their job very well. But with everyone working remote for the last two years it probably is a good way to frame the work you've done
Popular Post JerrySTL ★ Posted March 9, 2022 Popular Post Share #6 Posted March 9, 2022 When I did my self-evaluations, the only thing that I lacked was modesty. The last few were fun when I had to list my future goals. Retirement. Sitting on a beach. Riding my bicycle. Sleeping in. 5

The last question on the self-eval form is “What else would you like to include in this evaluation?” On the last one before I retired, I posted a link to the song We Are the Champions. Right after the bell rang to end the last class on the last day of school, I got a phone call. It was my supervisor, singing “We are the champions….” 3 4
ChrisL Posted March 9, 2022 Share #8 Posted March 9, 2022 I don’t recall ever doing a self evaluation? I haven’t had an evaluation in many years. Basically if you do a good job you bonus & keep your job. If you just meet requirements you keep your job. If you suck you get replaced.
sheep_herder ★ Posted March 9, 2022 Share #9 Posted March 9, 2022 Yes, but you have more control of your destiny, than if they just fill in the blanks from what they think they know. I was always very proactive with those things and tried to accentuate the positive. However, ours were more complex than just a fill in the blank form. These were a way of improving your funding, equipment purchases, and acquisition of additional help. However, all jobs or careers are not created equal.
Tizeye Posted March 9, 2022 Share #10 Posted March 9, 2022 I took it a step further. I just wrote my review typed draft ready with correct spacing to print out on the evaluation form.
Popular Post Longjohn ★ Posted March 9, 2022 Popular Post Share #11 Posted March 9, 2022 I’ve never self evaluated my retirement but I started it off great. Took a couple years off to care for my wife but now I’m back on track. 4
shootingstar Posted March 9, 2022 Share #12 Posted March 9, 2022 Yes, well. Thrills. I try to list what I've accomplished as part of it. Not every manager remembers.

Square Wheels Posted March 9, 2022 Share #14 Posted March 9, 2022 I've been on the giving end of at least 50 evals. The more people you rule, the harder it is to keep sincere track of what they do. I try to right my own eval while waiting on their self eval. Occasionally I'll be saved by them reminding me of a project from almost a year ago. 1

Wow... that's a LOT. 10 was more than enough for me to work thru. Then we had several meetings with HR, the VPs, etc... all questioning my emulations, rankings, etc.. I do NOT miss all of that crap. 8 hours ago, Wilbur said: I no longer have to do them Neither do I. 7 hours ago, JerrySTL said: The last few were fun when I had to list my future goals. Retirement. I had a job interview a few years ago. They asked where did I see myself in 5 years. I said "retired". That shook them up but I then said it's a 5 years contract and I plan on retiring in 5 years. Didn't get the job but found out that I was the next in line if the first person didn't accept the position. 1
