Wherever the noisy bitcoin mining plant is

Must have been a fancy presentation to convince the muncipality to approve this operation..because of contributing to green energy.  Right..I'm still trying to see through this sneaky argument. Need to use a ton of energy to run the machines before we even get to green energy for heating. No idea where this bitcoin operation will be located and to muffle the noise. North Vancouver is quite different from downtown City of Vancouver.  They are 2 different municipalities, cities.

North is a strange area..kinda off in their own world, not revealing to rest of the world their problems. Whereas City of Vancouver lays out their problems for whole world to see/debate, etc.

This Canadian city will be heated by Bitcoin mining (msn.com)

It's not a sneaky argument.

This actually is what can be termed a 'green' solution.

Buildings that would normally have to operate their own heating plants will receive heat that would have been rejected, wasted, to the atmosphere.  The building heating plants will be shut off.  Less energy overall will be used.

This used to be called 'heat recovery' or 'energy conservation'.  Now it's called 'green'.  Call it what you will, it's one of the oldest methods and means for maximizing the use of energy.  And when done properly, it works, it costs all the users less, and it lowers the impact on the environment.

The problem they have to solve is the heat rejected from the bitcoin plant will be essentially constant year round, but the energy needed to heat buildings will go away in the summer so there is no place to receive the bitcoin plant heat.  But even if the excess heat is rejected in the summer, capturing that heat for use during cold weather is still reducing the overall amount of energy needed by the plant and the buildings.

I laugh when key individuals today make a big deal about new green processes, when they've been there all along as you stated.

I think the Bitcoin Mining heat is simply that generated by the huge amount of computer power needed to do the calculations that do the accounting for Bitcoin, which is paid for in newly created Bitcoin.

As time goes on, less and less new Bitcoin is generated for the same amount of computing and some nations complain that more energy is required to do the calculations than the value of the Bitcoin the calculations generation.

So, apparently, this is a solution to reduce the energy cost of doing to calculations.
