Road Runner Posted March 10, 2022 Share #2 Posted March 10, 2022 I have used a locking gas cap ever since the last big surge in prices, whenever that was. 2008, I think.
jsharr ★ Posted March 10, 2022 Share #3 Posted March 10, 2022 My car does not have a gas cap. Inside the fuel filler doors is some sort of cap/gasket/seal thing that closes off the filler neck. I have a button to push in the map pocket of the driver door to open the fuel filler door.
Airehead Posted March 10, 2022 Share #4 Posted March 10, 2022 This was definitely a popular item in 1974 Oil Crisis

I think there was a couple models of it. There was a box of these, so I swiped one as a souvenir.
Further Posted March 10, 2022 Share #6 Posted March 10, 2022 On the news this morning they were talking about gas siphoning, apparently it is becoming common again
12string Posted March 10, 2022 Share #7 Posted March 10, 2022 We wouldn't need those if Big Oil would release the 50 MPG carburetor
Razors Edge ★ Posted March 10, 2022 Share #8 Posted March 10, 2022 We once had a car with the tank filler hidden behind the rear license plate. That was surprisingly good place to hide it. You did risk someone being overly aggressive trying to pull up instead of flip down the plate, but I remember hearing my mom tell the gas attendant "it's behind the plate" quite a bit as a kid.
Tizeye Posted March 10, 2022 Share #9 Posted March 10, 2022 The juvenile delinquents on my caseload educated me in the 1970's. You know the quickest way around that locking gas cap? An icepick to the gas tank. Walk away as it drips into a container/gas can, then return and collect you full container. Hole in gas tank that needs to be repaired? Not their problem. 1

Vodka tampons anybody? I prefer my vodka (or bourbon in the day) in the wiper fluid reservoir. Route the tubing into the glove box and you have a power dispenser.
